?Until the accident my mentality has been reminiscent of a feather in the wind; I trained martial arts, hangout with friends and on my ‘spare time’ went to school. It was not until that month of both accidents that I would learn to appreciate life and discover my calling. Due to accidents I gained another point of view on life, from both sides, the one of inflictor and the one of affected person, having a contradictive experience, such as driving my mother’s car and hitting another driver in his car at the same time. It’s because of this danger, that my mentality started changing and I started thinking in a different way. I then started having a different esteem on life and life. This was the main reason that motivated me in working in the field of health care. I began my new career, as volunteer at the medical of rehabilitation, trying to help people recover from health problemes and earn life again. I worked in the chiropractics department near Dr Bringleson, the center owner, as a chiropractor for a while. Having been too optimistic before the two accidents, I hadn’t applied at the college wishing to work in the field of martial arts. However, after consulting my high school guide on professional orientation, I soon started applying to colleges for University studies. This choice led me to centennial college of general arts and science. This was the first time in my life I started to have true goals and interests, seeing things now from another prism. Things then got totally different for me, as I began succeeding in my studies, and being awarded prized for my efforts, despite my past of failure at school. I then saw improvement on my mother’s physical health, and following courses of medicine on the Internet, starting getting mature, also due to the accidents that had occurred before, which helped in becoming more responsible. While I was working at the Centennial, I continued being volunteer at the chiropractic clinic, now helping people in regaining her physical abilities. In weekends I used to work part time as an electrician, at a warehouse, as worker, something that helped me a lot financially, earn some money, besides gaining some more professional experience, helping my also to pay off my debts. As I was going to finish my studies I was expecting to work at York University, for a bachelor’s degree on kinesiology. Then I heard about an opportunity on volunteering at the Common Wealth of Dominica, during summer under All Saints University. I was encouraged to take the plane and fly 12 hours away from my country, to a third world country, where I finally had the chance to spend there a few months, by being taught some subjects related to health care and, most of all having the opportunity to offer my services to people there, by cooking, and preparing education courses for them. This made me change my aspect on a possible degree from Harvard Extension School, on the contrary, I had the idea, that a degree from York or Toronto University, might be much more interesting and impressive. However, I soon changed my mind upon getting all information about this, that this would not be the best option for me from economic point of view. But If I wanted to have a completed personality, like adult, and really feel a responsible person, I think that this option would finally contribute to achieving my goals. For the program I was required to fulfill an application of language assessment online, and I would further have to work for getting a degree on the language, with at least B, for being able to apply for the program of literal arts afterwards. I really did, but I found the course quite difficult, and requiring too much effort, but the experience that I gained in the meantime, by living and studying there was proven to be determining for my life. After being accepted at the program, I wanted to be a volunteer at the local community. I thus discovered Action for Boston Community Development, and became a funding advocate, representing it at several government hearings. The program of ABCD, focused on first and second level medical aide and health care, such as rehabilitation of drugs, teachers of sexual education, as well as other people involved in the program with other activities. Apart from working as an advocate and offered them my services for fund raising purposes, I also worked as an advisor for the “Nuestras Familias” (=”Our Families”) center, on sexual education for several reasons. Unfortunately funding for ABCD were cut the following year, but a tried my own along with a few managers, to gain 400k for ABCD, that correspond to a 12% of increase on their total funding amount. Now, being a graduate of bachelors at HES, I know well, that this had been the best choice for me, for I now feel much more mature and experienced person. These experiences made me change mentality and attitude towards life and problems, by boosting also my character, to more humbleness, and sophistication. that I have completed my bachelors at HES I know it was a right move as I feel much more mature, the people I met and the experiences I received have shaped my character, gave me the right motivation, and made me a better humbler person. I then discovered and took full conscience of what I would really liked to be as professional, I wanted to be a physician, but not for the job itself, but just for being able to offer my services to humans, and help others. And I owe this to all the previous experience I had gained before, included the accident, that taught me how to be more patient and deal with patients. I later went back to Cambridge to get engaged with my girlfriend Lucy, with whom I had been together for six years in the past, for final exams. I started being volunteer at mount Sinai hospital in Toronto, at the endocrinology department, being engaged in a new career there, and doing interesting things in the field of medicine. The way to my final goals is still long, but I am willing to try and meet them too.   Read More
