Learning Objectives Report The company I worked for is called Nizing. This company offers consumer electronics and technical knowledge to s.It is primarily a retail organization with many outlets in Taiwan. The main customers are young, urban consumers that want the latest electronic devices and tip on how to best use them. We compete against other store front locations in Taiwan, but also against global retailers such as Amazon. The company does not currently have a website, making competition against web-based retailers difficult.
A company with a website that is similar to Nizing is Best Buy. This can be found at http://www.bestbuy.com. My responsibilities were mainly in customer service. I worked with the sales team to help people select items that best suited their needs. Most of my time was spent working at the cash register, assisting with checkout. In this shop there was a manager or assistant manager on duty at all times. They rarely overlapped, so there was only one supervisor in the shop at a time. I reported directly to the manager or assistant manager.
On our busiest days, there were five employees. The shop I worked in was small, so the largest crew was usually a manager (or assistant), two people working sales, one working on restocking or cleanliness projects and someone at a cash register. We were located along a commercial strip in Taipei. I was always on the floor either at the cash register or working with a customer. The average career path for people in the company consisted of either moving up into management or leaving to find more challenging and better paying employment.
Turnover was very high, mainly because most of the employees were young and always moving from job to job. My orientation was very thorough. I was taught how to handle the hardware, such as the cash register, packaging machines and even a hydraulic assist use for lifting heavy equipment. I was also given a day of customer service training. This told me how the company expected me to treat the customers and how I could make sales. The orientation was very boring. I wanted to do a good job, but most of it was common sense.
Most of it was on an old video player, which I thought was ironic considering we sell so much of the latest technology in the shop. I feel that being a high quality intern requires an attitude that is positive, a willingness to be instructed and courage to take on tasks that are new and unfamiliar. I believe that these are most important because any task can be accomplished with these attributes. Learning Objective #1 My first learning objective that I plan to accomplish is how to be a better salesperson.
I was envious of some of the other salespersons that I worked with. I want to learn how to close the deal and how to be more influential with other people. I want to work closely with people as they communicate with customers so I can observe good salesmanship up close. Learning Objective #2 My second learning objective is how to better manage multiple tasks. I am very well versed in using modern technology, but I often have a difficult time knowing which task is the most important and which is the least.
I plan on working with management to understand the processes in the shop so I can better prioritize my efforts. Learning Objective #3 My final learning objective is improving my knowledge of people management skills. I want to understand why managers make the decisions they do concerning scheduling, bonuses and contracts.
