ID Lecturer Managing Information Technology Request for Proposal (RFP) is one of the earliest stages within a procurement process. It asks for inviting the suppliers and takes place through a bidding process where the suppliers are required to submit a proposal on a particular commodity or service. RFP brings a sense of structure to the procurement decision and distinguishes the risks and benefits to be highlighted in an easy going way. The major topics that come under the realms of RFP include the obtaining of correct information to facilitate for the business decisions, the correct decision towards the strategic procurement, the manner in which the leverage of the organization’s purchasing power is obtained through a sound deal and lastly the assistance in the form of a broader as well as a creative suite of solutions which are taken into proper perspectives (Brown, DeHayes, Hoffer, Martin, Perkins, 2009).

All these form the key objectives which come directly under the aegis of the RFP. What RFP basically does is to make sure that it informs the suppliers regarding the company’s perspective towards procurement and in encouraging them to bring about their best endeavors. It also asks of the suppliers to suggest that the selection process is competitive in the basic sense of the word. RFP allows for a wide distribution as well as in gaining response. It also ensures that suppliers bring out their factual responses when the requirements are identified in due course of time.

Therefore RFP involves much more than asking for a price at the end of the day. References Brown, C.V., DeHayes, D.W, Hoffer, J.A., Martin, W.E., Perkins, W.C., 2009. Managing information technology, 6th ed., Prentice Hall
