Barry Bond and Jackie Robinson Barry Bond was born in on July 24th of 1964. He is the son of former major league All-Star player, Bobby Bonds. Barryplayed for the Pittsburgh Pirates and San Francisco Giants since 1986 to 2007. Barry Bond is renowned in the world of Baseball as a Major League Baseball outfielder. He joined Pittsburgh Pirates in the year 1986 and in the year 1993; Barry joined San Francisco Giant where he stayed till the last day of his career. Jack Roosevelt, popularly known as Jackie Robinson, on the other hand, was the first black Major League baseball player.
He is identified in the world of sports as the first black player of the modern era. Robinson was born in the year 1919 on January 31st and left the world in the year October 24, 1972. Before drawing comparison of both these luminaries from the world of sports, it is quite pertinent to mention that these two players are from different era and Robinson was the first to break the concept of colour line in the history of baseball since his first appearance with the Brooklyn Dodgers in the year of 1947.
And, he was the first black man to play in the league since 1880s. This fact helped him to bring an end to the racial segregation prevailing in the world of sports and particularly in professional baseball. He was an epitome of character and his impeccable talent provided a strong blow and challenge to the traditional basis on which the segregation was made in the area of baseball. He also made a considerable contribution in the Civil Rights Movement. On the other hand, the accomplishment of Bond as a baseball player is remarkable and this places him in a position unparalleled with the baseball players of all times.
He has set a record of getting seven ‘Most Valuable Player Awards’ but in the personal front he had certain loop holes which makes him a diminished entity to an extent before the personality of Robinson. He has lots of controversies associated with his career and the poignant of them is that of baseball steroid scandal. He is referred as the central figure in this scandal and he was convicted in the year on 13th April, 2011 for the charge of obstruction of Justice. Despite of having hell and heaven difference in personalities, both Jackie Robinson and Barry Bond are great players of their times and shall always continue to illuminate the bright pages of professional baseball for the rest of the time.
