19 Apr. Home schooling vs public schooling: In the contemporary age, violence in schools has become one of the major social issues. People are migrating to the advanced countries in large numbers in search of employment opportunities and high standard of living. The society has become increasingly multicultural. In schools, children from all ethnic origins unite and interact with one another. The racism and ethnic discrimination that is so widespread in the society fundamentally cultivates in schools.
Children that belong to a particular race and are in majority tend to underestimate and bully their class fellows. Various forms of bullying that include but are not limited to physical abuse, verbal abuse, sexual abuse, hitting, punching, kicking, threatening, and seducing have become frequent in schools these days. This leads us to the question: Is home schooling better than public schooling? Owing to the widespread violence in schools, home schooling should be preferred over public school.
Home schooling is much better option than public schooling because of a number of reasons. In the home, children are not exposed to racism of any sort. In the educational environment of public schools, children have to be in the company of racist fellows on daily basis. In the environment of a home, a child studies in the atmosphere created by his parents. He/she feels protected and is better able to concentrate upon the studies. Quite often, one or both parents are educated enough to teach the children themselves.
In cases where the parents are not educated enough, tutors can be arranged very easily. A lot of educated people look forward to such opportunities because of unemployment. In addition to that, such platforms as internet have become a potential means of education in the present age. A lot of informative videos are available online and the child is just a click away from education. Moreover, in home, a child can adjust the routine as per his/her own convenience unlike schools. Some people are of the opinion that public schooling should be preferred over home schooling because children are provided with more opportunities to gain physical nurturing in addition to education in the former as compared to the latter.
Public schools have large playgrounds to accommodate the playing needs of the children. Children can play football, volleyball and cricket in the free periods. Sports are essential for their physical as well as psychological growth. Sports make children agile and active so that they are better able to concentrate upon their studies. On the other hand, homes have limited space. Specially, in the present age, many families live in condominiums and flats where they only have sufficient room to live.
Crowded cities lack in open space for children’s sports. However, this is no problem! Children can be made to join recreational teams that would address their physical needs. Such facilities can be acquired with little expense, and are often more beneficial for the children as compared to school games because such programs are specifically designed for children’s physical needs. Therefore, home schooling is better than public schooling.
