31 March US should enact stricter immigration laws: America has for long been hometo illegal immigrants from all over the world. These immigrants work in America, avail the benefits and deprive America of money by moving it out of America. There is dire need for more implementation of severe illegal immigration laws. Too many illegal immigrants in US have bilked the American economy. Illegal immigration feeds on the strength of American economy. This is the fundamental reason why poverty in America is increasing day by day.
Jobs in which poor Americans need to be employed are indeed being given to people who are not Americans and who send the money earned to their homelands as remittance. In this way, money is slipping away from the hands of Americans. According to an estimate, more than US $ 200 billion have been sent by illegal immigrants to their homelands since 1996 (Hopkins). This has given severe blows to the American economy. Americans being replaced by illegal immigrants is another harsh reality. Owing to the widespread economic recession that has occupied the whole world in the recent years, business entrepreneurs have taken all possible steps to reduce their expenses and maximize their profits.
Workers have been asked to put in the same amount of effort as before but for a lower compensation. Many Americans have refused to accede to such plans of the employers, and have thus given resignations as a protest. This has hardly affected the employers as they have got many illegal immigrants that would love to work for the lowered compensation. In fact, many employers are employing illegal immigrants on extremely low pays. Illegal immigrants accept the offers because first, they are used to getting low income, and secondly, their residence in America is illegal so they would go for anything they are offered.
This has had a retiring effect on the middle class Americans. Massive in-pour of illegal immigrants has declined the living standard of middle class American workers, and they are obliged to work for wages that the illegal immigrants are offered. Job specifications and work benefits of middle class Americans have been paralleled to those of the illegal immigrants, which is very depressing. In a research conducted in 1997, it was concluded by the National Research Council that wages of poor American workers had been declined by 5 % over the course of just 15 years because of the illegal immigrants (Hopkins).
Taking these facts into consideration, the American public has seriously criticized the US government for allowing massive in-pour of the illegal immigrants. US government has for long been debating about the enforcement of stricter laws in the parliament, yet concrete steps still need to be taken in order to put a full stop to the illegal immigration. The US state Arizona has lately enacted Arizona Law on Immigration which has spurred a lot of debate because of its tendency to hurt the sentiments of illegal immigrants in US (“Illegal immigration”).
According to the law, any immigrant in US who fails to provide the officials with his/her identity documents will be taken to charge. This is a big step forward in the way of strengthening the US economy. Works Cited: Hopkins, James. “Importing poverty.” 2008.
