My Passion for Nursing Full Rita and Alex Hillman Foundation ‘Constant attention by a good nurse may be just as important as a major operationby a surgeon’ is an adage by Dag Hammarskjold which pictures the importance of a nurse’s job. This is a need that I observed Rita and Alex Hillman Foundation values for their patients. In this regard, I find myself suitable to working with the foundation because her passions and objectives are in parallel to mine. Working at Beth Israel Medical Center as a nursing technician for five years gave the necessary training that I could use in this prestigious foundation, applying the theoretical knowledge and skill I acquired in a clinical setting.
The invaluable information and observations I received at the hospital are common to medical centers, attending to the patients’ needs, providing daily care and other basic responsibilities of nurses. In addition to this, I am well aware that such a place presents great challenges so that I have trained myself to think critically on how to care for patients, understanding that they have multiple complex medical problems even to patients who are diagnosed with similar health conditions. Sometimes the setting and the pressures of the work can really drive an individual crazy however, I have resolved to myself to be the strong person I should be for me to be able to do my responsibilities not only to my patients but to my employer and myself as well.
I guess my deep passion for the profession has always been a driving force that kept me going even through rough times which in return made me better, stronger, more able. I agree with what Donna Cardillo said, that nurses are the heart of the healthcare. My beliefs are strengthened with the careful attention I equally give to patients, not being affected by their individual differences and attitudes but concentrating more on what I should give than what I receive. I understand that most patients look up for the needed attention from nurses as the perception of such responsibility has been attached not only to mothers but to nurses as well.
This understanding ultimately inculcated in me having a pleasurable manner everyday whatever the circumstance may be. I have always been a good-natured person, able to adapt well to a new environment and get along with various personalities but the nature of my job enhanced this characteristic even more. Working at the Rita and Alex Hillman Foundation I reckon, will give me the priceless experience of learning from one of the best who have established their foundations on promoting exemplary nursing care.
I believe that the aforementioned characteristics of this applicant is not yet comparable to most nurses nevertheless, I am giving myself the room for improvement especially when you consider me worthy of an externship with the foundation. I know my qualifications are not much but I believe that these are not the only basis of the judgment the foundation has in finding the eligible applicant. I guess I am depending more on your consideration of my great thirst for a competent training that I believe the foundation could give as I offer my humble contributions along the process.
