27 March, Population Growth: Since the evolution of earth, man has multiplied in number manifolds. Since early 1800s, there has been a seven-fold increase in the world’s population (Pearson). Adam and Eve parent the whole population of mankind. There are many factors that are responsible for the increase in population that include but are not limited to increase in birth rate, decrease in death rate, poverty, lack of education and lack of awareness. Also, some people tend to associate the number of children with power, thus, the more the children, the greater the power.

This and many similar conceptions have encouraged people to give birth to more and more children and play their respective roles in making the population increase. Some of the potential causes of increase in population on the global, regional and local level are discussed below: Cause of population increase on a global level: There has been rapid advancement in science and technology in the past few centuries. This has facilitated people in many ways and has played an important role in increasing the general awareness among the masses regarding health care and its importance.

Today, people are much more health conscious than they were few centuries ago. Also, the increase in awareness is not limited to the advanced countries only. In fact, both the developed and developing countries have become generally health conscious with the passage of time, though the health care facilities are better in advanced countries than in the developing countries. However, the latter are also striving hard to match the health care standards of the former. Much of this can be attributed to the fact that a lot of people from the developing countries go and study and work in the advanced countries.

As they return to their home countries, they bring new concepts and knowledge about health care. Increase in health care and awareness about it has caused a noticeable decrease in the death rate, while the birth rate has remained constant or has slightly increased. However, it is not ultimately the increase in birth rate that makes any difference. Instead, the decrease in death rate is generally causing the population to increase globally. The equation goes as follows: “Birth rate (b) ? death rate (d) = rate of natural increase (r)” (“Human Population Growth”).

Cause of population increase on a regional level: Regionally, factors responsible for population growth vary a lot. In underdeveloped countries like India and Bangladesh, poverty is the root cause of increase in population. Owing to lack of employment opportunities, people spend most of their time with their family at home, and hence, concentrate on developing the family. In developed countries where people are rich, they spend a considerable portion of their income on health care. Thus they live longer causing the population to increase.

Figure below speaks of similar patterns in Mexico. Population growth rate in Mexico from 1930 to 1990 (“Human Population Growth”). Cause of population increase on a global level: In Springfield Missouri, population has increased annually at a rate of 1.9 per cent (“Springfield, Missouri”). Factors causing population growth in Springfield Missouri include vaccination, better sanitation, high quality food and better health care. Works Cited: “Human Population Growth.” 3 Mar. 2011.
