Infatuation versus Love The understanding of human behaviour has led to the analysis of different forms of emotions of the human being. A human being is a complex being with different kinds of relationships and emotions that he experiences. Infatuation and love are important feelings of the being that have been analyzed and understood. Infatuation and love are two different relationships which differ from each other in many aspects. Infatuation is considered to be a more superficial relationship whereas love is a more deeper relationship highlighting the fact that love has a stronger emotional strength.

It is believed that infatuation is a feeling that is not long lasting and keeps on decreasing with time whereas love on the other hand keeps on increasing with time and the emotional bond keeps on strengthening with the passage of time (Wheat et al 1980). Love and infatuation are both characterized by the want to engage with your loved one but they have possess different aspects. It is analyzed by sociologists that infatuation is basically a path that leads to love. It is considered to be the first step towards falling in love.

Infatuation is an emotion where a person becomes occupied with the thoughts of the person that he admires. It is believed that infatuation is determined more from the physical outlook of the admired person rather than the character and the personality of the person. It is considered to be a constellation of emotions for the person being loved with respect to extreme intimate desire and obsession. It is argued that infatuation is basically an immature feeling and aspect of love. It tends to be away from the real world and a person stays in a different preoccupied world neglecting many realities.

It is believed that infatuation is directed more towards all the good aspects of the person who is liked and it does not tend to see the person as a whole with all his negativities (Cox 2005). Sociologists argue that a person always tends to keep an image in his mind for an ideal partner that he always follows. This image may serve as a reason of attraction due to many reasons which may be money, physical appearance or other particular interests. When a person comes across someone who fits this created image, there is a strong desire to be with that person.

This desire and feeling is that of infatuation (Zastrow et al 2009). Love on the other hand is a mature and deeper feeling which does not revolve merely on the external appearance of a person. It is actually the approval of the person on a whole who is being admired. Love is basically the admiration of all aspects of the person being loved and this feeling is of strong commitment rather than merely relying upon intimate experiences. It is based more on reality and the practicality. It is a strong belief that love tends to increase with time and it s an emotion in which a person feels satisfied and content in making his loved one happy.

Love is considered to be a mature human emotion (Cox 2005, Wheat et al 1980). Thus it can be seen that love is a more mature form of infatuation. Infatuation is directed more towards external characteristics whereas love is a deeper understanding of the other person. Infatuation may seem to reduce with time but love is an understanding which tends to increase with time. Works Cited Top of Form Cox, Frank D. Human Intimacy: Marriage, the Family, and Its Meaning.
