?BAD NEWS Delivering bad news is not something that one looks forward to. Bad news can be devastating to the receiver of the bad news. Sometimes, something that is meant to be harmless can turn out different then what was expected. This may cause one to have to deliver a type of news that could be shameful. No one wants to be known as the one who delivered the bad news. Although delivering bad news is not fun, someone at sometime in their life has to deliver bad news. Unfortunately in my situation, that bearer of bad news was me. I am the bearer of bad news. I am social and enjoy the good company of my friends. Since I was young, living in Minnesota has been a fun and enjoyable experience. Growing up I enjoyed being outside and When I was young I was the oldest of my four friends. Every day after school, three of my friends and I would meet in our playhouse we made. The playhouse was made of materials we found and I can still smell the distinctive smell of the inside. The inside smelt of a worn leather smell. Just the four of us would play together for hours and do normal things kids our age did. We went on adventures and got into a little trouble. Our favorite game to play was a CSI type investigators game. We would pretend that we were crime solvers on an unsolvable case. I can remember it like it was yesterday. It was a cool summer Sunday. The wind was blowing just slightly and enough to cool one form the heat. It wasn’t too humid and to breath in the air was very refreshing. My friends and I were pretending we were investigators working on a serious crime. Our playhouse was located in my backyard right up next to the neighbor’s property line between a few oak trees. The neighbor next to where are play house was, was the prime suspect. His name was Jim. My family knew the neighbor very well and he didn’t mind us playing in his yard. We knew that he would not be home until after 4:30pm because he worked as an usher at a local church on Sundays. He ushered 3 church sessions on Sunday afternoon and this gave us a few hours to look around for clues. While investigating the neighbor for clues, I stayed outside and was a look out for my friends. Being a look out is fun and exciting because you never know what could happen. They had been in the neighbor’s backyard for about 5 minutes when the neighbor suddenly pulled up in the driveway. I yelled the secret code so they knew to get out of Jim’s garage. Quickly, my friends ran out of the garage and straight for the playhouse. When we got into the playhouse, my friends told me that they dropped a telescope and broke it. I immediately felt responsible for what had happened since we were at my neighbors. After my friends had gone home for the evening, the neighbor came by and I overheard him ask my mom if she had seen anyone come by his house while he was gone. At that sudden moment I felt guilty and knew that it wouldn’t be long before I had to tell the truth I tried to wait it out as long as I could, but the anxiety was too much and I couldn’t let Jim continue to wonder. I marched out the back door feeling confident in the bad news I had to tell. As soon as Jim opened the door I blurted out what had happened. The neighbor was happy that I told him the truth but upset that his telescope was broken. This was the first time I ever had to deliver bad news. Doing what was right had me feeling so many different emotions. I felt sneaky, sad, excited and kind of thrilled. I learned that it is okay to deliver bad news if it is the right thing. This event has helped me do what is right and I am happy with the outcome. It took me the rest of the summer to pay for a new telescope but, the memory was worth it. BAD NEWS OUTLINE I. Thesis.
