Regardless of the prose and corns, there are some common challenges that every entrepreneur/manager must meet while dealing with a multigenerational workforce. To begin with, emotional barrier is one of the major challenges with a multigenerational group. Since each group is characterized by age-based traits, people’s professional outlook would vary. This perceptional variance would cause emotional conflicts between these age groups. Elders find themselves most deserving segment for their loyalty and experience whereas youngsters for their competitiveness and expertise. Yet some others often complain that new generation is little concerned about professional ethics. Another problem with managing multigenerational group is that individuals with different age traits require different motivational strategies and training programs. Although aged workers with long term working experience constitute a potential asset to the organization, their adaptability to changing business environments and technology is comparatively poor. Moreover, they cannot be assigned to jobs that require higher physical fitness. At the same time, a manager dealing with younger generation also confront with some constraints.
