Argumentative/Persuasion There are many instances when the use of the language of argument is necessary. In the written form, argumentative languagecan be used when trying to prove to someone else that following a certain course of action is wrong. For instance, an argumentative language can be used to show how and why abortion is wrong. This type of written argument can be presented as an article in a newspaper, magazine or even a journal. Some of the elements of argumentation that I would employ include: facts, warrant, backing and qualified claim (Besnard and Hunter, 2008, 15) .
For the facts, my argument will focus on the life threatening effects it has on those who undertake it. For instance, I will use the fact that abortion can cause major damage on the uterus to argue that it is wrong. For the warrant, I will use medical reports by competent doctors who have determined that abortion does indeed cause health related complications to the mother. For backing, I will argue that doctors have the moral and legal authority to carry out tests and give feedback on the effects of abortion.
For the qualified claim, I will use the argument that medical reports show that abortion can have fatal effects on the mother, making it wrong. My knowledge of argumentation methods will play a big role in my analysis of the materials that I read. For instance I know how to use reason and logic to analyze arguments (Walton, 1992, 134). I will use reason to help me understand the point of view of the author. I will also use logic to analyze the truthfulness of the arguments. References Besnard, P and Hunter, A. 2008.
