Extract of sample "Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder"

This paper leads to the awareness of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (later referred to as ADHD in this critique), primarily using discussing the various theories associated with ADHD and the possible adaptive function. The author agrees to the fact that no single theory succeeds at explaining the occurrence and presence of ADHD. Previously, however, it might have served as an adaptive function.

The need for analyzing this issue comes from a clear pattern that shows distinctive behavioral changes amongst children, and some of them continue to show the same for longer periods. The research paper shows clear facts that approximately 5% of school school-aged care is affected by ADHD and some half of these stabilize towards complete disorder in the latter part of their ages. Identifying the need for this research by stating these facts and the need to understand this issue, the author then moves towards identifying the clinical features i.e., the symptoms of this issue leading towards the disorder. The author then refers to the biology of ADHD, where he describes the genetic reasoning of the issue. The author then concludes the discussion of the root causes by discussing the evolutionary persistence of ADHD. In the next phase of the paper, Shelley reviews and discusses the theories related to the possible adaptive function of ADHD i.e., the Hunters theory, the Fighters theory, and the Waders theory. The author concludes the paper by further highlighting the importance of the topic particularly lime-lighting the consequences of disorder amongst children.

            Analysis

Overall, the paper has been written in a highly professional manner; though it is mainly a collection of information and theories, compiled and analyzed but the analytical perspective is highly beneficial for the students of the subject under consideration. The issues, even today i.e., in 2011, are still quite valid, and simple searches reveal that the percentage of school-going children involved in this issue or illustrating these symptoms has gone up since then, and is going further up. The data and information presented in the paper are very valid and accurate for the given time frame, and the clarity of words makes it easier for even a non-technical individual to read and understand. The most incredible part of the paper is the fact that the arguments have been presented in a very logical sequence. As a student, when I read this paper and the depth of the study of the developer, I have no option but to a grew it to the various aspects of the disorder that have been described.

The major strength of the paper is the fact that there are loads of facts that are presented, and are useful for continuing studies further on this topic. However, this also becomes a major weakness because the author has put in more facts, and lesser analytics and even analytics are supported with facts. But overall, the paper is well composed and well researched.
