The reason I have selected it as my first choice job is that I want to do a type of job, which should help me transfer my knowledge to a large number of young students. I want to play a valuable role in academic development of new generation and that is only possible if I transfer a good amount of knowledge to the students. I want to do a job that should not limit my knowledge to what I have learned. I want a job that should make me up to date with the latest knowledge in my desired field of study. Therefore, I have decided to become an instructor of computer science. As far as qualification requirements are concerned, I possess the 4 years degree in computer science all what is required to get a job as an instructor of computer science in a post-secondary school. I have researched a lot about this profession and have come to know that teaching computer science to post-secondary level students can be a good choice for me from all aspects. I have studied all those factors that a person evaluates when deciding whether to adopt a profession or not. Let us discuss some of the most important factors that play a valuable role in ensuring success in an individual’s professional career as an instructor of computer science. Job Hours Job hours mean the total number of hours an employee spends on job per week. I have researched this factor and have come to know that a computer science instructor spends 12 to 16 hours per week on job. As Locsin states, “most have flexible schedules such as 12 to 16 hours of classes a week, three to six hours of student consultation, and then planning and research time”. Such amount of time can help a person get enough time for getting more knowledge related to his/her professional field. Moreover, I would have plenty of time for student consultation. There is also a 2-month break every summer adding to the charm of this job. Looking at this aspect of this job, I would say that I have made a right decision to become a commuter science instructor, as I would get the time to spend with my friends and family while earning a god amount of money per year. Therefore, considering the factor of job hours, I would say that I have made a right decision because I would get some time for my personal interests while fulfilling my job responsibilities. Salary Salary is one of the most important factors that play their role when deciding whether to adopt a profession or not. I have researched this factor and have come to know that post-secondary computer science instructors earn $75,000 to $95,000 per year on average. It also depends on experience. For example, a fresh instructor earns 45,000 to 55,000 per year. On the other hand, an instructor having a 3 to 4 years teaching experience earns a big amount of money per year. I believe that such pay scales are fair enough for a person to live a high standard life in the United States. I have also contacted a few of my relatives and friends who re already in the profession of teaching. According to them, computer science instructors have a good choice of jobs for them, as computer science is a rapidly growing field of study. They also told me that the annual salaries of computer science instructors get more increment as compared to the salaries of other instructors. Therefore, looking at the salary factor I would say that instructor of computer science can live a high standard life because of high salary and flexible job hours. Job Satisfaction Job Satisfaction is another important factor to study when deciding whether to adopt a profession or not. I have researched this factor and have come to know that post-secondary computer science instructors are generally satisfied with their jobs. The reason is again the combination of flexible job hours and salary structure. Every person likes to have a good salary package along with reduced job hours. My friends and some relatives who are instructors at different colleges and schools say that the level of job satisfaction for instructors rises with every passing year. More experience earns them more money and eventually more satisfaction with their jobs. Life Style Life style of computer science instructors is very lavishing as far as I have researched and observed personally. They have plenty of time for research, leisure, and personal commitments. They enjoy their lives more as compared to the people having other professions. They get good salary packages and job benefits that make their lives stable and enjoyable. Career Progress and Advancement Opportunities People like to do such jobs in which they can get advancement opportunities. Instructors of computer science get career advancement based on their experience. They get high salary packages with time, as well as the opportunities to serve as instructors at big institutes. Job Security Job security is one of the major concerns for any individual. However, this factor is of little concern as far as the profession of computer science instructors is concerned. The reason is that computer science instructors, as all other instructors, get contracts both in private and state institutes. Summing it up, instructor of computer science is a very good and reliable career choice that never makes a person look back and say, “Had I known this earlier, I would never have decided to go for this career”. For me, the best things regarding working as an instructor of computer science are flexibility of working hours and job security. Salary is remarkable as far as job hours are concerned and the level of job satisfaction and advancement opportunities also speak in favor of this job choice. Second Choice Job: Software Engineer My second choice job is ‘Software Engineer’. “Software engineers are professionals from the Information Technology (IT) industry who are proficient in making software using a wide range of technical skills” (Rampur). I have selected it as my second choice job is that I want to do a type of job, which should help me use my skills and knowledge in creating new software products and applications. I possess high-level computer programming skills, which I want to use to develop high quality software products. I have researched many jobs related to my favorite field of study and have come to know that software engineers are eye candies for all software engineering firms. Some of friends are serving their employer companies as software engineers and are getting marvelous salary packages. Moreover, I have also come to know that in the United States, the job of software engineer is on the top rankings in the hot jobs lists of the recent years. Therefore, I would like to apply for the post of software engineer if I do not get a desired job as an instructor of computer science. Let us discuss some of the most important factors that play a valuable role in ensuring success in an individual’s professional career as a software engineer. Job Hours Job hours for a software engineer is usually 40 to 50 hours per week. Although the number of hours is big as compared to my first career choice, but it does not matter much for a person who wants to do something in the field of software engineering. I believe that I can utilize my skills and abilities in a more appropriate manner with such number of job hours. Salary Software engineers earn a great amount of money per year. For fresh employees, the salary ranges from $50,000 to $65,000 per year. For people with experience of 1 to 2 years, the salary ranges from $65,000 to $80,000. Similarly, for people with experience of 5 to 10 years, the salary ranges from $80,000 to $110,000 per year. For people with high-level skills and an experience of more than 10 years, salary even goes close to $125,000 to $135,000 per year (Lopp). Job Satisfaction The level of job satisfaction of software engineers is usually high because they do not have much concern about job security. A skilled software engineer can get a job easily in any firm based on his/her skills, abilities, and experience. In today’s world of information technology, the demand of software engineers is increasing with every passing day. Therefore, there is hardly any issue of job security for a skilled software engineer. Moreover, high salary packages also play a great role in ensuring job satisfaction for software engineers. Life Style Life style of software engineers is a bit casual as compared to that of instructors. The reason is that they have less time to spend with their family members, as well as to go on family functions. They generally live a busy but a high standard life because of their high salaries. Summing it up, software engineering is a highly paid and progressive career, which brings a large number of growth opportunities for software engineers.
