Holistic care nursing affiliation Holistic care nursing Holistic care is the science and art of healing that deals with the person as a whole that is the spirit, mind, and body. Holistic medicine incorporates alternative and conventional therapies to treat and prevent illness, and most significantly, to support optimal wellbeing. The state of holistic care is described as the unimpeded and unlimited free gush of life strength vigor through spirit, mind, and body. Holistic medicine incorporates all appropriate and safe modalities of treatment and diagnosis. It comprises analysis of lifestyle, spiritual, emotional, environmental, nutritional, and physical elements. It focuses on patient participation and education in the process of healing. This essay will address the principles of holistic care and the different patient needs to be considered when forming holistic care plan. Besides, incorporation of complementary and alternative medicine into primary care will be discussed. Principles of Holistic care and the four principles of the holistic caring process There exist numerous principles of holistic care. First, is optimal health, this is the primary objective of holistic care practice. It is the conscious chase of the superior level of balance and functioning of the spiritual, social, emotional, mental, environmental, and physical features of human familiarity, leading to a dynamic condition of being wholly alive. This forms a state of healthiness despite the absence or presence of illness. Second, is the curative power of affection, the practitioners of holistic care fight to convene the patient with spirit, acceptance, kindness, and grace without conditions, originates from the consciousness that affection is life’s most dominant healer. Additionally, the whole person is another principle. Practitioners of holistic care view individuals as the union of spirits, mind, body, and the structures where they exist. Finally, is treatment and prevention, practitioners of holistic care promote health, assist in raising awareness of illness, and prevent illness in life instead of only managing the signs. An approach to holistic care relieves the signs, adjusts contributing aspects, and augments the life system of the patient to optimize future health. The holistic caring process consists of four principle that is the physical, social, mental, and spiritual. The physical principle involves pain management and the control of upsetting symptoms. Evidently, providing the patient with some nutritious food after examining his personal requirements is also part of the physical wellbeing that is necessary for complete well-being. Second, the social principle of holistic caring process involves treating patients with dignity as fellow human beings. Moreover, accepting them as part of a group will help them to have a sense of belonging and this will aid in their well-being. Additionally, the psychological or mental principle involves counseling patients to offer them with a feeling of security and safety. Also, helping them to rediscover a sense of self-esteem and worth is part of the mental principle. Finally, the spiritual part involves encouraging patients to reconcile and end quarrels with their peers and family members. Significantly, giving them the opportunity to forgive and give will bring about peace of mind that is essential for complete well-being. Dissimilarities in patient needs when creating a holistic care plan Effective care and assessment planning to discover individual’s needs and concerns might lead to early intercessions, identification of the treatment consequences, enhanced communication, and improved equity of concern. As such, every individual must have a holistic needs assessment (HNA). The care and HNA plan ensures that the social, emotional, and physical needs of the patient are met in an appropriate and timely manner. The care and HNA plan should include physical concerns, practical concerns, relationship/family concerns, emotional concerns, and informational or lifestyle concerns. Physical concerns include pain, fatigue, wound care, sexuality, and concentration or memory. Practical concerns are education and work, housing or money, caring responsibilities, and insurance and travel. Family concerns are relatives, children, partner, and friends, among others. Besides, emotional concerns are depression or sadness, isolation or loneliness, and religious or spiritual concerns. Finally, lifestyle needs comprise of hobbies, drugs or alcohol, smoking, activity and exercise, and support groups. Complementary/ alternative medicine and western medicine Alternative and complementary healthcare and health practices are a collection of diverse healthcare and medical systems, products, and practices that are not currently well thought-out to be part of conventional medicine. Alternative medicine is mainly categorized jointly with the complementary medicine underneath the complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) umbrella (Filshie & Rubens, 2006). Complementary medicine denotes to treatment that set off allopathic or traditional western medicine. It is applied jointly to conventional medicine. Alternative medicine denotes to curative approaches in use in place of ancient medicine, and they are applied to ameliorate or treat illness, they are used in place of conventional medicine. Conventional medicine denotes to a system where physicians and other healthcare practitioners treat diseases and symptoms using surgery, radiation, or drug. The fundamental philosophy of alternative and complementary medicine comprises holistic care that aims at treating a person as a whole individual. Some techniques like massage, meditation, and yoga are termed as contemporary medicine since they complement the ancient medical treatments. The approaches applied in CAM are regularly less persistent that the conventional health practices, implying that they do not depend on conventional or surgery medications. Both complementary and alternative medicines apply similar types of remedies to treat medical conditions (Ernst, 2004). Conventional medicine is founded on the scientific awareness of the human body. It applies therapeutics that has been proved operational through scientific investigation. Differences of complementary and alternative medicine and conventional medicine Conventional medicine applies therapies that work together with conventional medicine. Conventional medicine is aimed at correcting and understanding the underlying issues that are causing the symptoms. Alternative medicine included therapies not presently considered as part of fact-based Western medicine. Conventional medicine treats the condition and not you as an individual, anticipating one to accept the treatment and diagnosis. Conventional medicine mainly aims at correcting and understanding the underlying issue that are the main causes of your symptoms. Similarities of complementary, alternative medicine, and western (conventional) medicine They tend to be holistic and comprise of therapies from a variety of cultural and historical backgrounds. Frequently requires one to take a vigorous role in his or her treatment with lifestyle alterations like psychological exercises, meditation, or diet. Both western and complementary medicine emphasize on the quality of the affiliation between the practitioner and the patient. • Features treatments that vary in origins and nature. How these remedies are considered to function are also varied, though numerous are based on the notion of enabling the ability of the body to cure itself. Role of music therapy, nutrition, humor, and exercise in complementary and alternative medicine Alternative and complementary medicine is supplemented with numerous factors to achieve the complete well-being of an individual. Role of Nutrition Nutrition plays a significant part in complementary and alternative medicine and has generated a comparatively new field that combines the use of supplements and food to augment optimal health and assist treat ailment. Sometimes termed as integrative nutrition or holistic nutrition, this amorphous field is turning out to be trendier as it concentrates on how supplementation and diet might contribute to the wellness aim of healing spirit, mind, and body. Role of Humor Humor also plays a significant part in CAM in treating individuals with dementia (Papathanasiou, Sklavou, & Kourkouta, 2013). Humor and laughter therapy cannot prevent or suppress dementia however if applied properly and carefully they are good CAM for dementia patients. Role of Exercise Alternative and complementary medicine comprise of several exercise modalities like yoga, qigong, tai chi, and a collection of lesser-known movement treatments. These different types of CAM exercises are used in the management of illness, and they assist in strengthening muscles, pain reduction, balance, stiffness, self-efficacy, fear of falling, psychological outcomes, and the quality of life in affected patients. Role of Music therapy Music as a healing art has been used from the ancient times. Traditional civilizations all over the globe used music as a medication offering chants and songs to cure both the soul and body. Local Americans made music a significant part of their curative rituals as well, and it is not strange for religious healers from some customs to utilize music to relieve pain and additional symptoms linked to several disorders and diseases. Presently, medical doctors also recognize the significance of music therapy in the treatment of all health issues including mesothelioma. Listening to music and involving yourself in musical activities may augment one’s quality of life. Barriers that are preventing the alteration of the healthcare system to an integrated care system Obstructions to altering our present healthcare system to an integrative care system Integrated care signifies dissimilar things to various individuals. The perspective of the patient is at the center of any dialogue on integrated care. Attaining integrated care needs those involved with providing and planning services to impose the perspective of the patient as the organizing principle of delivery of service. Integrated care is a method for any persons where poor coordination of care and breaches in care leads to an unpleasant impact on care outcomes and experiences. However, the integrated care does not appear to develop as a natural reaction to rising care requirements in any care system. Whether this is market-driven or planned, it should be fostered. Attaining the integrated care benefits needs good management, professional commitment, and strong system leadership. Systemic obstructions to integrated care should be dealt with if integrated care is to turn out to reality. The obstructions are: lack of well-timed diagnosis and disjoined social and health care system; the lack of partnerships between community services and hospitals; and lack of wellbeing and health boards to promote integrated care and apply leadership and influence. First, integrative care is essential for the well-being of individuals; however, integrated care for individuals living with illnesses should begin with well-timed diagnosis. Without a diagnosis, individuals will be unable to access the needed support that can assist them out of the condition. Nevertheless, even with a timely diagnosis, the present disjoined social and health care system makes it hard for individuals to access support. Integration issues need to begin with making sure there is the cooperative commissioning of services that stretch beyond the social and health care. Secondly, the lack of partnerships between community services and hospitals is also a barrier (Shekelle, Morton, Suttorp, Buscemi, & Friesen, 2005). Greater connections would augment the quality of life and health of susceptible older individuals. It will allow patients to spend minimal time in hospitals and minimize the costly and unnecessary hospital admissions, hence allowing individuals to be cared for in their homes where they feel like being. Presently, lack of joint resources between social and health care serve as a barrier to integration as providers and commissioners want to safeguard their services. Finally, lack of wellbeing and health boards to promote integrated care and apply leadership and influence is another barrier, and their presence will assist in incorporating integrated care in the healthcare system. A summary of the case file The case file involves Mr. Sandip Patel, who is a 23-year-old man who had had a comparatively unremarkable health history up to when he suffered from low back pain. Mr. Patel came to the nurse’s attention after he was diagnosed with low back pain. After being diagnosed, Patel claims that his health started to deteriorate, and he was diagnosed with a severe headache. Apart from physical health being, Patel had issues with the social, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Comprehensive review A comprehensive, review of problems discovered and rationales to address the problems. Healthiness is accomplishing all aspects of holistic care nursing. In the case file above, Mr. Patel had a pattern of poor association with family and companions, he also faced a problem with the best procedure to select for treating low back pain, and lastly, he needs complete holistic care. First, association with family and companions is vital, and nurses can ensure they accomplish the wanted results through setting targets. The target ought to address the relationship issue the patient is experiencing and be reasonable to accomplish. Likewise, it ought to be defined in a way that the nurse can have the capacity to notice progress and the target ought to be centered around accomplishment and ought to have a predefined span to accomplish the outcomes. The intervention or rationale for relationship problems can be addressed through counseling/psychotherapy and music therapy. Psychotherapy will address the psychological well-being of the patient and through talks, exchanges, and contribution in social exercises, the patient will begin to comprehend the significance of having a decent association with loved ones. Likewise, Music Therapy as a comprehensive intercession is a compelling artwork structure proposed to help an individual to move into amicability. Second, the challenge the patient was confronting was on the best treatment strategy for Low back pain. Unconscious of the best administration strategy the patient selected long sleep time hours. Despite that, this weakened his wellbeing. Low back pain should be dealt with various activities and methods that should be known to the patient. In this manner, medical practitioners ought to create goals that will address the Low Back Pain state of the patient and accomplish complete prosperity of the patient through systems and activities. To accomplish this result, the medical practitioners can utilize the physical therapy interventions and movement therapy interventions. The Movement therapy intervention is a guided arrangement of bodywork and developments to open force pathways and enable healing. The Physical Therapy is the administration of physical conditions concerning body damage, harm or malfunction. Finally, the patient had the need in holistic care nursing. Clueless on the significance of the considerable number of segments of all the components of holistic care nursing going from the social, emotional, mental, and spiritual prosperity to his wellbeing, the patient assumed major aspects that could have assisted him with regaining complete healthiness. The rationale to ensure the patient has achieved complete well-being is to use art therapy and counseling as a holistic care intervention. The Art Therapy utilizes fundamental art constituents to figure out how to enhance, keep up, and restore mental and physical wellbeing. Through investigation and data, the therapist can have the capacity to frame treatment plans that are exact to the individual. Counseling includes various psychotherapies that regard individuals as a whole. They address the spiritual, social, emotional, and mental aspects of the individual. Implementation and evaluation of CAM treatments within the care plan. The incorporation of complementary and alternative modalities beliefs, therapies, and practices with healthcare practices provides great potential for an augmented health care system like extended healing options, improvement provider, and patient satisfaction, and augmented therapeutic effects. However, with these numerous benefits, there are numerous challenges. If the non-conventional and conventional practices come jointly successfully, health practitioners will tackle numerous significant problems, comprising dissimilarities in research and funding of the practice, quality assurance, training and credentials, and practice culture. Despite doctors, being frequently requested to help their patients with referrals to and advice on CAM, there is lack both of guidelines to help with the incorporation of CAM therapies and evidence on the efficiency of almost all particular modalities or treatments. Given the demands of patients and the utilization of CAM treatments, regardless of the lack of substantiation, there is an augmenting need to attend to how CAM treatments may be incorporated into primary care systems. Conclusion Holistic care has changed my view of being a nurse. Holistic care has transformed nursing to a fulfilling profession from a draining job. By caring for the whole person – spirit, body, and mind- nurses can alter the manner they care for themselves and patients. Nursing as a field was turning out into something mechanized with the augmented use of medications and machines and human contact in nursing was being lost. However, nowadays-holistic nursing has turned out to become a field where humanity has been integrated in nursing practice. Thus, nursing has become enjoyable, and technique like playing music while doing the operation, and teaching styles of relaxation, among others can be used in the healing process. Furthermore, the integration of comprehensive and alternative medicine to conventional medicine has helped the healthcare system to focus on the individuals as a whole and not only the symptoms. To achieve complete well-being, nowadays practitioners have numerous ways of treating the patients by considering the four principles of holistic care process, which are physical, spiritual, psychological, and social well-being. Finally, some challenges exist in the process of integrating CAM to western medicine. The challenges are lack of well-timed diagnosis and disjoined social and health care system; the lack of partnerships between community services and hospitals; and lack of wellbeing and health boards to promote integrated care and apply leadership and influence. To completely integrate CAM techniques into western medicine, these challenges must be dealt with. References Ernst, E. (2004).
