The Education for Registered Nurses - Essay Example

There is a wide range of factors that motivates me to pursue nursing as a career. First, my ambition to be a nurse started at the time I was taking care of my grandmother. I spent a long time looking after her in a long-term facility. During that period, I got an opportunity to observe various nursing processes and also interacted with health professionals from diverse specializations in nursing. I was inspired by the way they handled my grandmother in a professional and empathic manner. I keenly observed the way they offered nursing services including treatment.

Initially, I was afraid of the processes even though I had so much passion for taking care of people. But later, I gained courage and some nursing skills by observing what the nurses were doing. I started helping them to carry out personal care duties including bathing, dressing, and assisting the patient with mobility. I enjoyed working with the qualified staff who helped me to gain nursing skills and also fulfill my need to help others. Nursing is a challenging job that calls for strong personal qualities to help one endure the tough situations experienced in the course of duty.

It is also very demanding and thus requires a nurse to prioritize other people's needs. Hence, it demands one to make tough decisions regarding the kind of care or treatment to administer to patients in the absence of doctors. Besides, my innate desire to help and care for other people in their times of need, I possess various qualities which enable me to endure the challenges encountered in the nursing profession and be a successful nurse.Some of the abilities include quick problem-solving abilities.

Through this skill, I am able to identify and address an issue proactively before they arise. This helps to minimize the number of problems taking place in the health facility. Besides, I believe in fair judgment or justice even if it means talking to patient's families, doctors, and other senior administrators. Secondly, I am compassionate. I endure various challenges including immense pain and suffering to ensure I create a good environment for patients. For instance, I am forced to work for extra hours while taking care of various emergency cases reported at the health facility.

This adds a human touch to the patients and also creates a good environment for treatment. Thirdly, I have effective interpersonal skills. Therefore, besides, my good communication skills, I possess strong interpersonal skills which help me to reduce the patient-doctor gap by trying to balance the needs of both parties. Also, the ability enables me to relate well with other nurses and members of the staff. Additionally, I always perform my duties with high standards of professionalism. I attend to every patient equally without discriminating them on the grounds of their race, language, age, gender, or socioeconomic status.

This allows me to relate well with patients for I see them as an individual who has an equal right to quality care and thus they need to be treated with respect and dignity.I am a motivated person and I want to grow in the field and as an individual. I, therefore, look forward to improving my knowledge and skills regarding the nursing profession. This spring, I will graduate with a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from the University of Tennessee. This will be a great achievement for me since this qualification will offer a chance to pursue a second degree in nursing.

For that reason, I would like to study an accelerated BSN course as I receive my first degree in nursing. The Accelerated BSN program will provide me with an opportunity to study for a bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) and become a Registered Nurse (RN). The education for Registered Nurses allows one to choose a career from a variety of specialties. Hence, with RN qualification, I will be able to perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities. Also, it is a very competitive position but I am ready for the challenge.

I, therefore, believe by achieving my academic goals, I will be able to pursue one of the specialties in the RN program. In the future, I aspire to be a flight nurse. To achieve, this goal, I plan to work on my weaknesses and expand my knowledge of the nursing field by involving myself in internship and volunteer ship programs in my community to enhance my professional skills.
