In this article on the Association between Nurse Workload and Nurse-sensitive Patient Safety outcome, a patient’s safety definition is the absence of preventable harm to a patient during the process of healthcare. Due to several medical malpractices in Taiwan, the study was carried out looking into three areas nurse workload, patient-nurse ratio, and overtime hours. In its conclusion, it found out that the patient-nurse ratio had adverse outcomes; the study also found out that overtime working hours had a direct negative effect on nurses’ effectiveness which in turn had an adverse effect on the patient.
The quantitative method used in this study would be sufficient to inform the government of Taiwan on how best to improve the health care system in the country. The statistical method used in this study was effective and appropriate since it was able to bring out the actual effect of overworking the nurses.
This article basically discusses the impact that nurses have on patient morbidity and mortality and the need to come up with a policy that would be able to address the shortage of nurses. The methodology used was a research of written and produced articles to come up with a conclusion. The two studies concluded that there was a need for an increase in the nurse-patient ratio however while the former methodology was based on some specific areas of study, the latter was a general study.
The methodology used in this study was more appropriate since it used articles from some of the research carried out before.
This article acknowledges the shortage of nurses in America and offers some insight on how to curb this shortage. According to the study, the shortage of nurses can only be addressed by increasing the number of students enrolling in this course. The study is also able to come up with the challenges likely to be faced when addressing this shortage one of which is the financial challenge. However, it’s not able to come up with ways of raising these funds and this becomes one of the shortfalls of this study. Different from the other two methodologies, the study is able to notice that the shortage of enough nurses is a result of fewer qualified nurses but not governments’ inability to employ more nurses. The government can use this study to increase the enrolment of nursing students in medical schools.
The article discusses how the working environment affects the quality of services offered to a patient other than the number of staff working in a particular health institution. It discusses how the working environment of a registered nurse affects her ability to offer quality services. The study can be used by healthcare providers in allocate allocation of enough resources to improve the working environment. The methodology used was a direct interview of the registered nurses. This helped in coming up with first-hand experience. While the other three methodologies factored so much into the Nurse-patient ratio, this one has deviated a little bit by factoring in a nurse working environment.
