The nursing and research process The nursing process is a patient directed approach of identifying the needs of apatient by assessing them, then using this assessment to make provide individualized care. On the other hand, research process is a method of studying a different problem providing a basis either for more research or providing a solution to that problem. These two processes have share a lot and differ in some ways. Nursing process involves five steps. Nurses exclusively use the nursing process to assess the patient needs, develops a nursing diagnosis relating to the problem develop various interventions to solve the problem, implement the solutions and evaluate the effectiveness of the interventions (Mary, 2010).

On the other hand, research process involves identification of the research tropic, doing a literature research, determine the methods of study collecting data and analyzing it then drawing conclusions of the data that are useful. In this, both method help to solve a specific problem even though, research has a broader field of application (Mary, 2010). Another similarity between the two processes is the promotion of extensive documentation and consent seeking. Both methods need consent and documentation of the finding and the whole process.

These methods differ in that; whereas nursing process only identifies the problem it solves within the specifics of a patient or a community the research process is wide in perspective. It can be amalgamated in almost all the fields of study with numerous applications (James, 2013). Besides, whereas nursing process is a problem solving process with an aim of bettering the life of a patient, the research process has a wide application. Apart from solving a problem, it can be used to suggest for future further studies providing better ways to improve the earlier research.
