She further studied at University of Colorado earning a B.S., M.S., and a Ph.D. and has nine honorary doctoral degrees (Watson, 2015). She has worked in various learning and health care institutions. She has written more than twenty books both individually and with her colleagues. Her particular interest is in nursing and human caring as demonstrated in her various publications and career practice (Watson, 2015). Watson’s book Human Caring Science: was originally published in 1988 and later edited in 1999. The book expresses her creative ideas developed through observations and her long time experience in the nursing profession. The tone of the book is earnest and friendly. She believes that human caring begins from the inside of a person and extends outwards to other persons in the community. Her publication has been reviewed by a reader and revised to reflect most proximate occurrence in the real life situation of nursing world. This also implies the book is widely read by people with a diverse professional background. This book was intended to elaborate the theory of nursing to academicians and health care practitioners involved in caring for the patients. She holds the doctorate degree in psychoanalysis from Columbia university in New York. She has practiced for 23 years as psychoanalysis and psychodynamic psychotherapy (Munhall, 2015). The Family, Health, and Fitness magazine voted her the “Best of Psychoanalysts this year. She is a full university professor. Her book “Nursing Research, fifth edition” was published in 2011. She published her first edition in 1986. The book contains broad information based her research findings and long-term experience of dealing with clients of various health conditions. She has several other publications including books and journals (Munhall, 2015). She has interest on symptom relief, emotional growth and personality integration of her clients. She deals with patients having depression, childhood emotional sexual abuse, etc. In addition, she offers counseling to business people (Munhall, 2015). Her publications are mainly based on personal research and work experience hence they reflect her personal findings. Furthermore, the book is peer-reviewed and widely read hence it contains reliable information. The book mainly targets psychoanalysis and counselors. It is essential for academicians as well as the business people. Techniques for the Identification of Essential Information from these Sources. The main technique used in identifying information in Watson’s book was scanning and skimming. These methods helped in identifying the key information about the author, their expertise and areas of focus. Also, it provided information about the target group by the author. This analysis was used to assess the accuracy of information provided in the book and the purpose intended by the author. In the book by Munhall (2011) the roles of the author was identified and her experience examined. Her extensive knowledge in research and her experience in the learning institutions as well as service to the people led to the conclusion that her publication was lucid and accurate. Analytical Skills in Use In Watson (2012), the study involved gathering, analyzing the information, organizing the data, condensing and summarizing of information obtained from the book. The analytical skills were crucial because it helped in determining the quality of source to analyze and quality of information contained in that source. In Munhall (2011) the skills applied included evaluation and cross-examination of the roles of the author and experience in respective field. The information provided was much about career practices and work institutions hence evaluation and cross-examination of the information provided other details such as special interest and precision of the publication. Pauline in order to pass this piece of work you are going to have to focus in on certain things and omit details which are not required. For the first reference provide information about the professional background and the publication. What is the purpose of the book and who is it intended for? Is it accurate? I am guessing that this is a widely used textbook and as it has gone to a second edition it must be being used by many people within nursing. The second reference I have looked at and I don’t feel that it is complex information. Do you have another reference you could use? Perhaps something you are using for LO3? Also rememeber that you need to have sourced 4 pieces of information but only need to do an annotated bibliography on 2 of them but you need to put the other two references in as well. Just write them in Harvard style. Make reference to these within the assessment.
