Self-Marketing Plan Self-Marketing Plan Part II: Professional Position for a Masters I would like to work as an administrator in a psychiatric department in either a hospital or a clinic facility. This is because I already have two years’ experience in this role, working in psychiatric emergency as well as inpatient experience. While working on a night shift, the team of physicians usually consists of an RN, PCT, and an LPN. Therefore, I am the one left in charge of most of the duties in the facility. In was responsible for all the issues that happened in the hospital during the nightshift. While going through this experience, I was able to develop my leadership skills, sharpen my communication skills as well as learn how to delegate duties. Part of my responsibility is making sure there is enough staff for the upcoming shift based on census and call out and to notify the supervisor in charge. Staffing is one of the job responsibilities of a nurse manager/nurse administrator. Other job responsibilities include financial management and budgeting which is an area I would need more experience in, recruiting, interviewing and training new employees. I have oriented several new RNs that have joined our unit and I very much enjoy teaching one on one or in small groups. Completing performance evaluations, determining what services the healthcare facility will provide, and ensuring that all employees’ licenses and certifications are up to date would also be my responsibility. I would do well with these responsibilities because I am organized, and have already thought of several changes I think would be beneficial to the patients and staff if they were to be implemented on our unit. Based on my knowledge, skills and t6he experience I have gained so far, I expect to be compensated a salary within the range of 80,000-120,000. I would engage in various activities to prepare myself for this role in order to ensure that I am always in good shape to offer my services. For instance, I would ensure I keep myself abreast with current hospital policies, medical knowledge, and current healthcare issues. I would also look for a role model or mentor that I could speak with and learn from especially in the beginning. I anticipate having to continuously educate myself on changing policies and healthcare issues as well as adapt to budget cuts and new staffing. I think there’s always opportunities for personal and career growth within each job description even if it’s just improving or excelling at daily job assignments and responsibilities. In general, I consider myself a friendly person so I think I would have an easy time fitting in with my peers in that regard. I anticipate facing some challenges as a result of my age and lack of administrative experience. But working together with the administrators and letting my work performance reflect my competency will help me overcome this challenge. Part III: Self Marketing Plan Personal Nursing Statement and Philosophy My nursing personal statement and philosophy is based on my desire to provide compassionate, empathetic, competent and holistic patient care to patients in different settings. This is a personal philosophy that I have held for a long time, and which in intend to use as a guiding principle for the rest of my professional career in nursing and psychiatry. This personal conviction comes from the beliefs and values that were inculcated in me from a very young age as well as throughout my education. For instance, some of my personal values and beliefs include trustworthiness, compassion, respect, and hardwork. These personal values have been influential in my professional life thus far, steering me to greater heights I my professional success as I climb up my career path. Another important factor that has shaped my personal values and beliefs is my cultural background, which places greater emphasis on values such as ethics, mutual respect, religion, sexual purity, and inclusiveness (American Nurses Association, 2010). With this kind of background, I intend to be one of the leading professionals in nursing and psychiatry, providing holistic patient care to my patients, clients, their families and the wider community. My nursing personal statement has also been influenced by several nursing theories, including the Whitman-price emancipation theory and Jean Watson theory as well as the Betty Neumann theory. In particular, the Whitman-rice emancipation theory has enabled me develop a humanistic-altruistic system of values that guide my professional practice. The theory places greater emphasis on addressing different needs of patients such as biophysical needs, psychophysical needs, psychosocial need, and intrapersonal-interpersonal need in providing holistic patient care. On the other hand, the Neumann Systems Model has been very influential in helping me develop strategies for dealing with psychiatric patients by viewing each individual as an open system that responds to stressors. I believe that I order to continue strengthening this personal philosophy; I need to continue being actively engaged in professional practice as well as in the academic sector. This involves furthering my education, conducting research, and participating in professional workshops and seminars that will enhance my knowledge and build my professional skills. I will also strive to work within the framework of the American Nurses Association, as one of the registered members in trying to build a strong profession by complying with established standards. Professional Profile I am a supportive and compassionate qualified mental health worker with extensive experience and ability to relate with clients in different settings and collaborating with their families to create an environment that fosters their independent development and social acceptance. I have two years’ experience in providing recovery-focused initiatives for different clients diagnosed with mental health problems. I am also advancing my education through a master’s program that I am currently taking to advance my knowledge. I am now seeking a rewarding role in psychiatry or mental health work in any environment including hospitals or any other facilities, where I can contribute my skills, knowledge, and personal attributes in working with different clients to facilitate their mental health recovery. Career Objective My personal career objective is to continue practicing professionally as a psychiatrist, rendering my skills, experience, knowledge, and time in diagnosing and treating mental health disorders in different settings such as hospitals, community centers, or any other health facility. In this regard, I intend to sharpen my skills and expand my knowledge in the field of psychiatry in order to contribute to the growth of the profession as an active registered nurse. Situational Analysis/ Market Research Psychiatry has developed over the years to become one of the best professionals in the wider nursing career path. In spite of the growth of the profession over the years, there are still very few psychiatrists in the country in comparison to other medical professions. Most of the practicing psychiatrists in the US are in Private practice, running their own mental health diagnosis and treatment facilities. Nevertheless, there are many other professional psychiatrists employed by the government as well as in the private sector in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, outpatient care centers, as well as in some colleges and universities around the country. Therefore, career opportunities for psychiatrists are immense. The state of California is the leading employer of psychiatrists in the US, followed by New York and Ohio. However, the state of Connecticut and The District of Columbia has the highest concentration of jobs and location quotients in this occupation. On the other hand, top paying States for psychiatrists are Maine, Arizona, and Oregon. According to statistics from the Bureau labor of Statistics, the mean annual wage for psychiatrists is $182,660, with a projected wage rise of 1.7%. Nevertheless, there are many people in the US working hard to become established psychiatrists. Therefore, there is high competition for the limited positions in employment. On average, many practicing psychiatrists have at least one university degree. However, most of them have opted to continue with their education through higher learning programs such as masters and doctoral degrees. There, there is a significant amount of competition in this occupation. The strongest competition comes from job seekers with two or more degrees as well as enviable amounts of experience under their belts. SWOT Analysis In order to position myself in the industry to be able to beat off any competition, I have identified my areas of strengths and opportunities, as well as those areas that need improvement, through a SWOT analysis model. A summary of the key findings in terms of my Strengths, Weaknesses, opportu8nities, and Threats is as indicated below; Strengths I have substantial work experience, having worked for two years I am currently working towards advancing my knowledge in the field through a Master’s degree program. I possess many other technical skills and knowledge such as computer skills I also have a strong work ethics and a host of other desirable personal traits that are necessary for this profession I am a registered nurse with great passion for what I do Weaknesses I do not have vast amounts of experience in this profession I have no experience in leadership inn this career I am a poor at teamwork Opportunities Developments in globalization and technology are bound to open up more job opportunities for psychiatrists I have a string network gained from my previous job experience Threats Organizations in the industry are aiming to employ people with higher degrees. There is increased competition from college graduates Target Market There are many open channels for practicing as psychiatrist, including working in hospitals, various community centers, and private practice. However, with this marketing practice, I am open to work in various environments that will provide me with an opportunity to offer my services and use my knowledge and experience to improve the situation of many mental health patients (American Psychological Association, 2010). Therefore, I am willing to work in both private and public hospitals as well as any other facilities that offer mental healthcare to patients. Marketing Strategies and Tactics Some of the marketing strategies I intend to use include the following Testimonials- encouraging some of my former clients to encourage others to take up my services by stating how they felt about my professionalism and general approach to the profession. Social Media- Using sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Google+, and LinkedIn to market my skills, and services that I can offer to different clients Online Marketing- Posting my resume and accomplishments on various online forums and blogs Networking- meeting new people and establishing connections through seminars and workshops that bring together different stakeholders in the profession.
