Effects of Radiation on Veterans Radiation exposure to the veterans had the effect of leading to the development of healthissues. As such, veterans developed certain illnesses because of the radiation exposure. These include different forms of cancer, leukemia, lymphomas and multiple myeloma (Veterans Health Initiative 7). Radiation also has the negative effect of affecting the skin of the veterans including their eyesight, which influences their ability to make judgments in different situations in their life.

Hence, the veterans became a source of health need, which the government had to allocate adequate resources in addressing their health issues (The Bombs 3). Further, the veterans spend most of their income in seeking medical assistance, which implied that they did not have an opportunity to enjoy the accrued benefits in peace. However, they qualified for benefits, which include disability compensation and medical treatment. Radiation also denied the veterans a chance to remain physically fit.

Such is evidenced by the fact that radiation left several of the veteran members as physically unfit to engage in other life activities. These individuals developed illnesses, which makes them unfit to engage in the process of war of peace keeping (U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs 1). Hence, the family members of these persons are fully engaged in the process of taking care of the sick veterans, which reduces their engagement in the process of economic growth and development. Such is because the veterans become dependent on the family members.

Moreover, radiation had the consequence of loss of life, which makes the veterans to leave behind dependent families in cases where such individuals were the key breadwinners.
