One of the significant things I have learned is the importance of nurses joining professional organizations. I have learned that organizations play a major role in addressing issues of nurses as well as influencing health policy. Moreover, such bodies help in addressing issues related to society in terms of health. I have also realized that an individual cannot be able to further nursing goals as compared to a group. Hence, joining such an entity can help in shaping and achieving nursing goals. On the other hand, I have noted that advocacy by nurses and such bodies is crucial in addressing the needs of the patients. This plays a significant role in the provision of quality care.

Moreover, I have realized that various ethical issues arise as nurse work in various environments. Some of the ethical issues are likely to put one in a dilemma. Some of these issues may affect the performance of the nurse. As a result, one has to learn of various initiatives that can help address such challenges.

The other important thing I have learned is the influence of advocacy. I have realized that advocacy can play a significant role in the transformation of the nursing profession, society's health, and individual nurse. The advocacy may help in highlighting some of the challenges ailing the health sector as well as influencing politicians to come up with favorable health policies as they use lobbyists. Additionally, I have realized how understaffing affect healthcare outcomes. This is because the staff may be overworked which may lead to poor concentration. Moreover, such nurses may be stressed and hence be not able to communicate with the patient efficiently.

I believe more effort is needed to advance professional Knowledge development and Communication. I need to undertake various initiatives so that to assume active responsibility for continuing to master these skills. One of the initiatives is to ensure that I have up-to-date knowledge of emerging diseases (Chu & Hsu, 2011). This will be through reviewing the information presented by professional organizations on the same. Secondly, I will also ensure that I take professional courses in the field of technology related to health care. This will help in understanding the new concepts of technology currently applied in health care. For example, the use of technological equipment in providing care. Thirdly, I will enroll in education programs that seek in improving skills such as psycho-emotional care and those that teach nurses strategies for overcoming communication barriers (JBI, 2010).
