Nurses may be firefighting their role and or not working to their required standards thus allowing the spread of conditions that are contracted within a hospital setting. Though this article may offer a suitable explanation as to why the spread of infections amongst hospitalized patients takes place, it ignores the most important aspect of the problem, the “how?” therefore, making it a consistent problem.

Cimiotti et al., (2012) approximate that, 1.7 million people in hospitals contract a condition from the hospital setting. It also explains that out of the 1.7 million, 98,000 people succumb to the conditions leading to death. This article sites burnout of nurses; that is, the lack of enough nurses to cater to patient need and to facilitate infection control as a key issue that requires a solution to ensure that infection rates decrease. True as this may be, the article only offers or shows the urgency or capacity of the problem with no suggestion as to how this problem may be solved. Like the first article, it is flawed as a discussion as it offers no means to the end of the problem.

Weiner-Well et al., (2011) look into the responsibility of infections in hospital settings to uniforms worn by nurses. The study on which the article is based sought to analyze the number of bacteria and other microorganisms on specific areas on the nurse’s uniforms such as sleeves. This article gives an accurate account of the fact that the uniforms are responsible for the said infection, but they too are flawed in that they do not give a solution to the problem.

Conclusion

The above articles give valid reasons for how and why infections are transmitted in a hospital setting. They are however flawed in that none offers a valid solution as to how to cope or counter the mechanisms leading to infection.
