However, the patients’ perception on spirituality has increased the participation on practitioners in embracing the vice. In 1992, only three medical schools across the United States combined the provision of religion, spirituality and medical courses. In analyzing the same study conducted in 2006, about 100 medical schools out of 141 schools provided religion and spiritual related courses (Koenig, 2008). This depicted the increasingly change in perception on the role of spirituality in the health care system.

Regardless of this level of education, most practitioners do not implement the teachings in their institutions. This maintains the huge between patients in need of spiritual intervention and practitioners who provide the care to patients. What role or importance does spirituality have in healing hospitals? Is spirituality a mandatory requirement in creating a healing environment? Do biblical teachings provide recommendations on how to create an efficient healing environment? Patients in healing hospitals require more than just medical care.

In an argument Bravewell Collaborative (2012) patients with serious illnesses require spiritual intervention for the restoration of hope in life. In addition, a healing environment demands that a patient considers their actions in life considering that the outcome may be life threatening. Koenig (2007) is also of the assumption that it is human nature to lay their hope in a more superior place a part from medical care. For this reason, spirituality is inevitable in regards to the perception of patients.

The duty and responsibility of the healing environment is to provide patients with the required attention and care. Bravewell Collaborative (2012) provides an example of a woman who tested positive for HIV. This was after her husband died of the same disease.
