Nursing Care Nursing Care Nursing is a discipline in which a person gives health care to families, communities and individuals. This enables the people to reach and retain high health standards so that they can live good lives. Nursing practice is a diverse area and most nurses practice under the directive of physicians. Their main focus is to treat ailing people in order to help them a achieve a good quality life. The main role of nurses is to provide health services to individuals, families, as well as communities. Personal Philosophy of Nursing My personal philosophy as a nurse is to provide quality health care especially on a preventive basis. Modern medical practice has moved from curative care to preventive care. Preventive care is cheaper than curative and poses little danger to patients. Preventive care is mainly advisory and leads to a better quality life than curative as the body stays healthy for a long time (Baillie, 2005). The immune system is not weakened and this means that the person is protected from exposure to diseases that weaken the body and may lead to complications. The advice is to practice healthy standards of living so as to prevent the person from health problems that may lead to complications. Modern practice is moving towards preventive care as it costs less to maintain than curative and it leads to long, quality life. My philosophy is to also give the most affordable and least invasive care to my patients. Modern medical advances in medicine have offered simple methods of taking care of patients so as to maintain quality lives. The advances have also integrated natural health care systems with medical care to ensure that people are encouraged to let the body’s immune system work to fight off diseases (Baillie, 2005). This strengthens the immune system and develops immunity that fights off diseases in the case of recurrences. This is important as it helps the body to fight off diseases in future and this is important in improving health. Why do you think you will be successful in the PN program? The practical nursing program equips learners with skills and knowledge that help nurses to practice nursing care under a variety of circumstances so as to improve the quality of life for individuals, communities and families. The practical nursing care is also culturally sensitive and this helps nurses to provide health care that is sensitive to personal beliefs. Practical nursing program integrates theoretical and practical frame works to give the nurse a holistic approach to health care (Baillie, 2005). The ability to combine theoretical and practical nursing skills is important as it enables the nurse to provide informed care, which improves the health and life of the patient. My philosophy of providing preventive care and integrating natural care to medical care will be the core of my success. I, therefore, believe that I will be successful because I am focused on practicing my skills within my community by actively engaging in health care activities in the course of my academic life. I will also be successful because the college offers constant practical nursing opportunities where students actively engage in applying theoretical frame works as part of the learning program (Baillie, 2005). This will make me successful as I will have a chance to learn through application. This is one of the best learning skills in nursing as it enables students to come into contact with the real applicable world. What motivates you to become a nurse? Nursing is one of the noblest careers in history. It involves bringing happiness to people through quality lives. The ability to restore people’s health through mu skills motivates me to become as nurse as I believe that this is service to society. The ability to provide health services to the society motivates me as it is a way of giving back to the community. The society is moving towards longer lives through quality health services and thus, nursing stands as one of the careers that offer services that improve health and the overall life. Providing services that play a part in facilitating long life is an honour as it is central to happiness. I am also motivated by the fact that nursing is one of the oldest professions. This profession has dedicated itself to supporting life through medical care. The practice has also evolved over the years and the modern care is very professional and focuses on improving life rather than just curing diseases. This ensures that people’s lives are now longer and healthier. Additionally, nursing care is spread across lifetimes. The skills are applicable to people of all ages and this means that I am in a position to offer care to people of all ages (Baillie, 2005). This improves life across a wide area and thus, I can adequately take care of people in the whole community. I am also motivated by the fact that I am interested in furthering nursing care by being resourceful through research. Research is instrumental in improving nursing care. What challenges or obstacles will you need to overcome in order to be successful in the nursing program? One of the biggest challenges in nursing care is the ability to overcome tragedy. Despite the improved nursing care and skills, sometimes life is lost in the line of providing care. This can be challenging as it means loss of lives in my care. Death of a patient is challenging and it can even be demoralizing (Baillie, 2005). The nurse ought to have skills to deal with trauma as a result of losing patients as it is one of the risks involved in nursing care. it is also important for me to learn not to blame myself as sometimes, the best care is still not enough to save a life. I will also need to learn to appreciate different cultures that may have a negative impact on nursing. Cultures have guided societies for ages in the absence of scientific provisions to explain life. These cultures have a bearing on health and they can sometimes interfere with nursing care. I will, therefore, have to learn to overcome the challenge of cultures that may hinder successful application of nursing knowledge. I will also need to be culturally sensitive as this is important when dealing with different patients. The obstacle of cultural practices may hinder the application of nursing knowledge and it is important for the nurse to learn how to learn to handle such obstacles. Caring for terminally ill patients can also be challenging. It requires skills in how to offer the best services so as to make sure that the patient is as comfortable as possible in the last days of her life. This is often challenging as the patient is usually in constant pain. This means that the nurse has to learn how to give the best care in the face of adversity.
