Application Essay: Master’s Degree in Nursing I believe that a graduate program in nursing should not only equip the with advanced skills andknowledge in patient centred nursing practice but also advanced leadership and management skills. With these skills and knowledge, the graduate nurse will be able to adequately tackle emerging issues and provide good leadership and management to their institutions of work. I also strongly believe that nurses in leadership positions should have a master’s degree at the least.

With a master’s degree, the nurse is well equipped to deal with issues related to management and leadership and has the knowledge and skills required to conduct research on issues of interest. Alternatively stated, a person who has a Bachelor’s degree in nursing may not be adequately trained to handle several issues especially those related to leadership and management, and may not be able to conduct advanced research. My preferred choice in the field of nursing is to become a Family Primary Care Nurse Practitioner.

In a bid to develop my career as a nurse, I have decided to pursue a Master’s degree in nursing. This course will hopefully enable me to move higher in my job scale and become an administrator. As opposed to taking a master’s in business administration or education, a master’s degree in nursing is bound to equip me with knowledge that is more specifically applicable in the healthcare sector. Upon successfully completing the master’s degree in nursing, I hope to become a chief nursing officer (CNO) within a period of three years.
