The Wilson Home Care takes part in the Annual Hawaii Senior’s Fair. This year’s theme was “The Good Life Expo”. This was the 28th Annual Senior’s Fair, and Wilson Home Care, just like it always does, had a booth at the expo. The event was held on the 28th of September, 2012. For my research project, I attended this event as a volunteer at the Wilson Home Care’s booth from 12:00pm to 4:30pm. As a volunteer, I provided free blood pressure checks to the community alongside other volunteers and Wilson Home Care’s personnel. The day was busy as many Senior Fair commuters wanted to have their blood pressure checked.
Based on the community outreach event, my personal experiences in nursing practices have substantially improved. Theories and principles that are presented in class lay a strong ground upon which real world services are offered (George, 2011). Having my efforts and services appreciated was both inspiring and encouraging. This experience made me realize the extent to which my services are needed in the community. Nursing practices are highly demanded in the society, and so are nursing ...Download file to see next pagesRead More

Reflection paper about Service learning project

...Self-reflection on Volunteer Work My service learning project was done in Muslim Community Center. I chose this venue because I often pray in this place and observed that MCC could use some help from people who would like to teach the children. There are actually many children in the place studying Quran and Tajweed. Some enrollees are also studying the Arabic language which suited my abilities because I can teach the language. I was immediately taken in by the center because they saw the sincerity of my intention. My main responsibility at the center was to teach the Arabic language for non-Arabic speakers. I taught the children how to write on Arabic and make the correct pronunciation....

...? Service Learning at Papakolea Garden Chaminade At the start, I had preconceptions of what nursing will be like but after my experience in Papakolea, I have learned the importance of culturally sensitive, family-oriented, and nature-based care. Aside from this, I’ve also realized that community work is as rewarding if not more than private-hospital or clinic-based work because in the communities where access to healthcare is limited, there is a bigger need for nurses and other healthcare professionals. With the experience and learning I gained, I am now more inspired to do my best and serve as a nurse where ever I am needed. Service...

...s Service Learning Reflection Introduction Recently, I embarked on a small journey that included volunteer work at a center for children's theatre. This theatre hosted performances for children and adults; however, it mainly concentrated on the cultural and creative development of children. The specific work in which I was involved in mainly consisted of directing schools into the various sections of the theatre, whilst making sure that they were also structured and seated correctly. This type of work also coincided with an assortment of other smaller jobs such as sweeping and picking up trash after the show had concluded. As this paper will demonstrate, I have learnt a lot from this...

...What? I have to waste my time on something that I won’t get any benefit in return in order to pass this required ” I mumbled to myself as my X203 class’ orientation meeting draws to an end. I didn’t like the idea of having to perform service learning in order to graduate college when I first heard about it. Why should I have to do volunteer work in order to for me to graduate from college? As a college student with full time job, I have classes, homework, quizzes, exams, and work to worry about already. I don’t have the time or the energy to concern about some non-profit organization which I have never heard of in need of unpaid assistants. In my opinion, people with too much time on their hands are...

...Service Learning My time serving at an Islamic mosque was quite insightful because I got to experience what it was like to serve others rather than be served. Charity work is not really my type of thing, but I felt great enjoyment when handing out food to poor people. The smiles on their faces are something that is priceless, and I will always remember this particular experience for as long as I live. Another part of what I did for the mosque was not so fun—cleaning and painting walls inside the mosque. Manual labor is not something that I enjoy, so this was quite a challenge for me to be able to put all my efforts into it. Someone has to do those kinds of jobs that no one wants to do but must by done by...

... HERE HERE YOUR HERE HERE Service Reflection Being a leader with a servant attitude involves understanding what others feel, think and imagine in order to build empathy for their situation. In the secular world, leaders are often defined by their ability to manage others effectively and create policies that assist in helping others develop their own strengths. Servant leadership, when referencing religious doctrine, involves being compassionate regardless of how difficult it is to show patience and tolerance. When thinking back on situations in personal life that involved servant leadership, one situation stands out more than any other.
