  1. Enalapril (Vasotec) is administered for the treatment of J’s chronic heart failure.
  2. Metoprolol (Lopressor) is given to J to make her BP normal and thereby treat heart failure.
  3. IV morphine sulfate (Morphine) is administered to treat J’s pulmonary issues and allay her anxiety.
  4. Cardiovascular conditions such as hypertension, hypotension, coronary artery disease, and abnormal heart valves most likely lead to heart failure. In the case of hypertension and hypotension, medication can be used to maintain blood pressure at normal levels. Nurses should “keep nitroglycerin available for immediate use” to prevent the development of heart failure in case of coronary artery disease (Nurses quick check, 2008, p.207). Patients with abnormal heart valves have to be advised for immediate surgery.
  5. To avoid issues associated with multiple drug interactions in older patients, nurses may ask patients about the details of prescription drugs abused in the past. During medication, the nurse should closely monitor patients for the complications of multiple drug interactions. In addition, the nurse should perform all possible procedures to identify the prescription medications abused by patients earlier.
