Working within the Organization The cause of Antonio’s stress Antonio is feeling stressed firstly because he is newly hired, and as a team leader, the employers have great expectations from him. Failure to produce the missing data might result into a downward shift in his post and he might no longer remain a team leader. Likewise, Antonio would be deprived of all the benefits and privileges he enjoys as a team leader. Secondly, if Antonio is not able to evaluate the staff and tell the number of patients who overstayed and their reasons because of undocumented data of the latest two weeks, his first impression upon the employers would be very bad, which might affect his performance and reputation in the company.

The to-do list for AntonioAntonio should get the list of all employees and make a chart with numbers 1 to 5 against their names with 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 meaning best, good, average, bad, and worst. Antonio should identify the qualities for which he would grade the team members. The qualities can be punctuality, communication skills, group skills, and compliance with instructions etc. Since there are few days left to the meeting, Antonio should meet the team members daily and give them any number from 1 to 5 depending upon his perceptions of them.

To know the number of patients who have overstayed, Antonio should consult the nurses directly looking after the patients. They keep the record of duration and treatment of individual patients. On the day of meeting, Antonio should evaluate the employees with the unit managers based on the marking of the last few days and his judgment to cover up the previous days. Antonio should discuss the information generated by the nursing staff regarding the overstaying patients. In case Antonio gets no information from the nursing staff, he should convince the unit managers that he does not have information because he was dealing with too much as a newly hired team leader.

Now that it has been some time, he will make sure that he has the data with him in the next meeting. Time log for AntonioAssuming it is a 6 hr working day starting at 8:00 am and ending 3:00 pm with lunch break from 12:30 am to 1:30 pm, the time log is as follows:Activity TimeReviewing all admissions and discharges for acuity8:00 am to 10:00 amGeneral patient care (visiting patients)10:00 am to 12:00 amMeeting with the team members12:00 am to 12:30 amChecking which patients have overstayed and who need to overstay1:30 pm to 2:30 pmRecording information2:30 pm to 3:00 pmManagement of workAntonio can organize and streamline his work by working according to the schedule described above.

Antonio should divide the work roles among his subordinates and team members and oblige them to record all kind of information. This will not only enhance the system’s efficiency, but also Antonio’s load would be distributed.
