Most of the theories view leadership as grounded and based on the following perspectives; leadership as an ongoing process, leadership as a combination of different character traits of individual leaders or leadership skills. All the theories do postulate that leadership is a continuous process that; and that leadership is aimed at attaining targeted goal within an organization. Leadership is a dynamic and complex process that keeps the notion of things simple. N 700 Leadership: Setting the Example  Contemporary leadership theories consist of theories that state that the leader should have the ability to learn and understand all the individuals in an organization. The leaders have to open minded and keep all issues within an organization out judgment. The leaders have to have the ability to deal with paradox and ambiguous issues within an organization, the ability of being a servant, a teacher and a motivator rather that being a leader. In servant leadership theory, the leader is required to think before taking critical actions within an organization. The servant leader is to avoid using words that can affect the unity within the organization. Motivational theory states that all human being require motivation within an organization. Motive is the desire to do something those results to a positive outcome. Every leader in an organization ensures that all members have the desire to work within the program. The manager can improve the program motivation by providing intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation within the organization (Asperas, et al, 2005). Trait theory states that people are either born or not born with the leadership qualities that make them succeed in their leadership roles. In that, there are some inherited qualities, like individual personality and cognitive ability, are the major influences on effective leadership. Research conducted to find out the most important leadership traits, and that the rate of disagreement. Intelligence, sociability, and determination are known to be the key qualities in leadership (Asperas, et al, 2005). Skills theory states that the most significant features in leadership style are individual knowledge and acquired skills or individual abilities (Asperas, et al, 2005). The two are very significant elements in effective leadership. The skills theory does not support the notion that there is a relationship between inherited traits and the ability to be an effective leader. It states that individual learnt skills, the developed style, and acquired knowledge, are the main elements to leadership style and performance. N 745 Strategic Leadership  Situational Theory suggests that leadership depends on different situations. Different leadership styles are to be employed within an organization, in that for one to be an effectual leader in an association, he or she should be in a position to adapt the leadership style to the existence circumstances of the situation. The main factors that determine the leadership style used are capabilities and obligation of a leader’s supporters. These factors are used to determine if a leader ought to use an additional directive or supportive style of leadership. N 760 Strategic Planning  Contingency Theory postulates that different leadership styles can be used depending on the different situations that are present at the moment. Contingency theory states that efficient management depends on the extent to which a leader’s leadership style conforms to that of the leader’s qualities and style and that of a specific situation or context. A clinical leader in nursing is one who gets directly involved in patient care and who incessantly improves care by influencing fellow staff members. Nurse’s personal leadership theories are not simply a sequence of skills or tasks; but it is also an attitude that creates behavior in nursing personal leadership. Additionally, good leadership in nursing is dependable superior routine with long term benefit to all members involved. Leaders are not purely those who rule others, but those who take action as visionaries, who help out employees to plan, lead, manage, and systematize their activities. There is a great dissimilarity between theory and style of leadership. According to Asperas, et al (2005) personal theory states that, there is a representation of reality, whilst style of leadership is the array of ways one can implement a theory of leadership. Organizations must aim in favor of a leadership style that facilitates high-pitched levels of work performance, with hardly any disruptions, in a broad diversity of situational state of affairs, in a knowledgeable way. In the equivalent way, there is dissimilarity between administration and leadership. Managers plan organizational procedures, put in order and manage, while leaders correspond predict, motivate, encourage and allow diversity in order to generate directorial change.
