I was swollen with pride and honor to make my parents and grandmother hold their heads high due to my accomplishments. Later I joined Mayo State Vocational School from 1992 to 1994. I successfully graduated as a proud Licensed Practical Nurse. Accomplishing my aim of becoming a nurse was a significant moment of my life, and I could not be more happy and content. On my graduation day, my grandmother very proudly said, “I always knew you were going to become a nurse.” I was overjoyed to finally become what I had wanted since my childhood. I will always be thankful to my grandmother for influencing me in such a positive and supporting manner. She laid the foundation of the zeal and enthusiasm for nursing that I have today! I wanted to excel more in this profession and wanted to broaden my knowledge and understanding. This enthusiasm for nursing led me to apply to the Excelsior College in 2000. The sole reason for applying there was that I wanted to learn more about nursing and gain as much experience and comprehension of this field as possible. In 2004, I graduated and received my qualification of Registered Nurse. I had completed another step in my way towards pursuing my passion. I did not stop there; I went on to apply to Mountain State University for Bachelors of Science in Nursing. I am currently studying nursing here and my course will end in March 2012. With a BSN degree I will have a more enhanced and improved approach to nursing; indeed, it will have a positive effect upon my future

I got married to Paul Michael Fitch on the 23rd of March, 1991, and we are still happily married. In 1998 I was blessed with my first bundle of joy, Jason Michael Fitch. A lovely baby girl became a part of our family in 2004, and we named her Hannah LeAnn Fitch. My interest in nursing budded in my childhood, as my Grandmother Lucy Castle was the first person who encouraged and influenced me to pursue this profession. Whenever we used to spend time together, she made beautiful little red capes. She also made crafty paper nurses’ hats and I used to color them with a red cross. I spent my childhood playing in this nurse’s attire which increased my passion and urge to actually become a nurse. My grandmother also bought a doctor’s bag which she gave to me, labeled as a nurse’s bag. With these little gestures of hers, my grandmother was the first ever person who instilled the concept of the compassionate and humane profession of nursing within me. During my high school junior and senior years, Judy Herron was my health occupations teacher. She was one more person, after my grandmother, who had a major influential role in what I am today. She sensed my interest towards the nursing profession and she left no stone unturned in encouraging and helping me out whenever I needed help. College is the main foundation of one’s academic life; if we choose the right future for us in that time, it determines our levels of devotion and dedication thereafter. My teacher helped me in choosing what I loved and was passionate about. Thus, with the resourceful guidance of my teacher I passed my college years with flying colors in 1990. Going to college and graduating was an achievement in itself, as I was the first person from my family who ever went to college. My future plans are to apply to Marshall University for the nurse practitioner’s degree in April 2012. I always had a desire to fulfill my dreams and passions wholly. When your profession is your passion and ardor as well, nothing can be more perfect than that. I will keep on learning new researches, developments and studies in the field of nursing, as this is what I have wanted since my childhood and it truly completes my existence. Helping the sick and treating the ill gives me the inner contentment that no other profession could ever provide.
