Revision and Reflection: What I Have Learned Introduction It is important to note that the passing of time brings with it different experiences and familiarity, especially when it comes to life. My time spent in the US/UA has indeed opened my eyes to the possibility of a life that was initially far away. The people, culture, and traditions that are present reflect the nature and attitude of a people that are wonderful and pleasant. It is surprising that this experience has helped shape my attitude as well, and it is also through certain activities that I value my time spent at UA/US. I particularly enjoyed the class events and especially attending the musical, A Little Night Music, which made it easier to comprehend the passing of time and its value when it comes to love. This paper will examine the role the class event had on me, and how it may influence some of the choices that I make with regard to my time in the UA community. Outline Analysis of the class event- The musical A Little Night Music is analyzed and explored as seen during the May 1st class event. Role of the event on my life at UA and US- The impact of this class event on my everyday life at UA is mentioned, and what might be done differently after attending the event. Conclusion- Declaration of clarity as a result of attending the class event and its impact on me, especially in UA’s community and US society and people. Analysis of the class event The musical, A Little Night Music is one that has transcended the concept of time. Since its production in 1973, there have been different adaptations that allow the musical to surpass different cultural elements, and gain acceptance among different audiences. The numerous accolades it has achieved enable it to get more airplay, thus; ensuring its popularity. The music by Stephen Sondheim is probably the biggest element that makes this musical a hit (Allen 1). It is the music that allows the intended audience to have an idea as to what the characters are feeling at any given moment, and how they react to their situations. It is the music that influences the characters and their roles to display such an emotional and educational piece, with regards to life, love, and the passing of time. In the musical, the different characters all play a significant role in the development of the story. No single character is more important than the other as each one has a story that brings life and light to the story’s development. This is similar to what happens in the UA community. Everyone has a role to play and that is exactly what everyone does. It is inspirational because it gives an individual, such as me, an avenue to feel like part of a bigger community that does not focus on what I do, or where I come from. Another aspect about the events at UA is the fact that they help build character. As part of a larger community, the likelihood of falling by the wayside is particularly lower than when going at it alone. This is because the events strengthen an individual’s resolve to be better at what he/she might intend to do. Different events, for example; sports, which UA is particularly keen on establishing, is an avenue for individuals to strengthen their relationships. Respect is fostered among the people in this environment, which creates a distinct pattern of mutual understanding and acceptance. In such an environment, there is no desire to disregard another person’s input, especially when working as a team. During such events, there is a chance of creating relationships that surpass the classroom environment, which can then be seen as one leaves the UA community. The culmination of such practices brings forth the desire to treat each individual with the respect and admiration that one receives. As seen in the musical, every character has a different sense of life and time, and at UA, this is no different. The end of the class event, A Little Night Music, brings about different aspects of life, time, and love. Relationships are built, and through the bonds created, it may be difficult to comprehend how they can break. Through the sharing of thoughts, ideas, and reflections about life, one can get to understand why people behave the way they do, and what influences their everyday actions. Once this happens, becoming part of the larger community is easier, which enables one to adapt to the larger US community, without necessarily losing one’s identity. It is through different discussion forums that people are allowed to express themselves and have opinions about life, love, and the passage of time. Through the musical, it is clear that individuals need to decide what they desire, and go forth in attaining it. Furthermore, from the musical, it is clear that what is expected at times is not what always presents itself. This is true even in a community such as the UA or US. Individuals may want to be accepted through their actions and choices, but it does not always work out for them. However, by persevering and holding strong to one’s beliefs, the world may begin to see an individual for what they are. The confidence that events and peer discussions offer often give individuals the strength to be genuine and sincere in all that they do. Once this happens, it becomes easier to be part of the larger community, during and after school. It is this sense of responsibility toward each other and the community that fosters great and exceptional mindsets that help societies grow and flourish. As seen in the musical, love, time, and sex are recurring themes, as each character seems to be lured into the sense of longing for all these things. In my opinion, these are themes that are present in everyday life. For those who are old, all they can wish for is to go back in time to relive certain moments, or even change others. For those who are young, all they can wish for is to learn, grow, and experience different life events so that their lives can be shaped depending on how they feel. The irrational wish that life could just be, where they get to do what they want and have no consequence, even this will never happens (Allen 1). This musical is crucial in identifying some of the aspects that are present in life, and how time is an element that changes the mentality of every person possesses. The events that are in UA offer individuals the chance to make their own choices and live their lives, and this is what I call freedom. Role of the class event on life at UA and US The class events and activities were a way for me to have a different perspective on life at UA community, and how each individual values and respects the input of every other person. It is this understanding that fosters a brilliant relationship among all the members of this community, creating an environment that embodies the culture and traditions of the overall university and the American society. It is through this attitude that the class events and activities became a large part of my daily routine, which enabled me to tackle most of them with confidence and self-belief. UA made it possible to believe in myself, and after attending the class event, it became clear to me that; despite the little turns in life, everything tends to work out in the end. In doing so, I might be in a position to increase the exceptional experience gained in this community. Conclusion The class events and other aspects of the UA culture make it clear that more needs to be done to increase the experience of life. Interaction on a regular basis makes it possible to understand people and deal with them on an emotional level. Peer and group discussions are vital in doing this. As this happens, it becomes easier to understand the language, traditions, and culture of the people. It is through these aspects of life that I get to understand that time is an aspect that should be appreciated, and the time spent in this community may never be forgotten. I wish to do more in terms of interacting with people, hence; increase my knowledge and awareness of the community and overall, the American society.
