VIDEO ANALYSIS “When he is not high as a kite, it seems B.O.B has quite the interest in the arts”. This is a small extract from the critical reception, done by Digital Spy of the song ““So Good” ” by B.O.B.Bobby Ray Simmons Jr or better known by his stage name B.O.B is an American hip hopping artist, songwriter and record producer from Dectur, Georgia, United States. The song ““So Good” ” is the second single from his second studio album “Strange Clouds”. The song was initially released via digital download on 21 Feb 2012.This was followed by the Justin Francis directed music video released on March 21, 2012.The song is a catchy little pop-rap tune about things and their being “So Good”. It is a fanciful track about escaping on a holiday with a girl he loves, with promises of world travel and high class tourism. The music video of the “So Good” shows off the beautiful Buenos Aires, Argentina. It opens up with a shot of Paris, France showing B.O.B wander and jazz around the Buenos Aires, Paris and other exotic locations around the world. The scenery shown was appealing and elegant along with an enticing wardrobe. The expansive aerial shots showing Lisbon, decorated colourful alleys and glimpses of the sight-seeing spots give an exemplary flavour. Bob also gives shine to several historical figures who have been dead like “Michelangelo with the flow” and “Picasso with the bars” as mentioned in his song. The referencing of history’s finest artists does not end here as he mentioned Caesar and compared himself with Da Vinci and his date with Mona Lisa. He also compliments his date by saying “like a piece by Gershwin”. In the first scene of the video, B.O.B is shown speculating with the cigar and drinking beer outside a restaurant while he is waiting for his lady. This has been depicted in the song, as the track features “Drinking a German beer with a Cuban cigar”. This could be considered inappropriate, because being a youngster he is promoting the habits of drinking and smoking thereby encouraging other teenagers to take a wrong message from the song in the very first shot. He is also talking about the girl he likes and her admiration of arts by mentioning Picasso and Michelangelo. Apart from the point that the song lacks mature content, it is a fantastic choice for younger rap and hip-hop fans. It is then followed by another shot covering both B.O.B and his girlfriend. He is approached by his young lady at the same restaurant where he was waiting for her .she greets him through a kiss on his cheeks after which they both left the table .The atmosphere shown is light and refreshing as the director has made full use of the natural sunlight around. In between the scenes the director has injected glimpses of astounding historical landmarks like Pisa. The outfits that have been used by both the artists were simple and present a natural look. In another scene the couple is sitting together on a sofa and spending valuable time with each other. They are browsing a magazine, which takes them into the world of imagination. It is obvious from their face expressions that they are really excited and madly in love with each other. Bob is also making commitments and promises with the girl, “to pack her bags” and he is imagining themselves to be in Mexico for a holiday. Also he is asking the girl about her “fantasy” and to be his “senorita” which means that he wants to keep her happy always and forever. He would take her anywhere in the world as she wishes along with the fact that he wants her to spend whole life with him. In the middle of this dream, in which they were fully absorbed, they both are seen at a holiday destination which is actually the next shot of the video. Both of them were dressed in a simplistic way, bob wearing a casual short with a shirt and an inner t-shirt. Whereas the girl was wearing jeans and a cream top. It could be observed from the whole video that in almost every shot, bob was given an ordinary touch or a flavour of common young lad. In the scene, both of them could be spotted near a beach with a full shimmer of sunlight. It could be said that it is one of the best shot by the director, as it can be depicted from the scene that the boy wants to accomplish and fulfil all the dreams and promises he made with his love. In the upcoming four shots, Bob is performing hip-hop raps at a various locations around the globe covering a single hook verse. The first three scenes are being covered in small urban towns with small alleys and full of coloured backgrounds. The environment shows mini houses and small windows at three different places around the globe, through which the viewers would be able to have awareness about different cultures and traditions. The lightening on top of that is really impressive as no other light is better than the natural sunlight. Plus the camera and the artificial lights used by the director is creating mesmerizing effects to the viewer. Also the single verse is taking the viewers to four different places at the same time one by one, which is justifying the intentions of bob to visit the world. The fourth rap is pictured in a big gigantic hall which is taking us to a totally different place. The flooring is really nice and appealing to eye. The director is very intelligent in picking up the venues for the video. This is because of the fact that the regions and the places, chosen by the whole team for the shooting, is not for a single group of audience. It is covering the majority of audience and public at large. Due to this, the song was able to sold over 1 million copies in US and other places as of 12 Sept. 2012, in just few months after its release. Not only this, he was able to secure peak positions in charts for 2012 in Australia, UK, New Zealand and all over the Europe. In the following scenes, the couple can be seen together spending precious time with each other. The colour combination has been outstanding between the two, black skirt with a hat on top while a maroon shirt on Bob is looking great. Blue and black combination in an another shot between the two is also looking really nice. The attire selection has also been exemplary throughout the whole video. There was not even a single place where the clothing of the artists mismatches the venue of the shot. Both the scenes can easily show that they are living the dream, which they have seen together. The main thing about the music video is that, Bob has not used any of the musical instruments even while performing the raps in which he was alone. This has given a lively and natural look to the video and the underline story depicted in the song plus video. From the e first scene bob started telling us a story in which he seemed to be pretty honest. No other artists apart from Bob and his love lady were present in the video, which took us all to the World tour together with the couple.
