Influence of Blues Music - Essay Example

After the passage of a few more years and around the mid of 1960s blues music was revived because of the introduction of several groups that mostly focused their work of music towards the blues genre. Some of these groups included the rolling stones, small faces, yardbirds, Spencer Davis group, and many more. These groups mostly made covers of songs that were created previously by African American bands. A similar sort of revival was also taking place in Jamaica around the same period but this revival had a twist of its own and was called Ska. Some of the popular blues music of this era included I can't stop loving you by Ray Charles, Under the boardwalk by The drifters, etc (The Official 60's Site-Rhythm and Blues Music of the 1960s, n.d.).

The Beatles are one of the most well-known groups of artists that made their way to the top. However, The Beatles also started from ground zero and worked hard to reach the star-studded status that they are at even now. The roots of The Beatles group began to grow in 1960 when they performed their debut song in Hamburg, West Germany and then they performed for the first time at Liverpool’s club in 1961. The popularity of The Beatles began to grow however; they faced a setback when their band member Stu Sutcliffe died of a brain tumor in 1962. After giving an audition at the EMI studios in London in 1962, the Beatles released their song Love me do which reached #21, and then their first album was released in 1963 titled Please Please Me. This was when the Beatles kicked off their music career with continuous music hits and the release of albums every year. It was in 1965 that the Beatles met their idol Elvis Presley and spent the entire day with him at Graceland. But it was after the year 1966 that The Beatle's popularity started to decline (The Beatles Timeline. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, n.d.).

When they were teenagers, the Beatles were strongly influenced by several rock and roll artists such as Elvis Presley. They admired these artists so much that they even started to dress like them. John Lennon once said that if there was no Elvis, then the Beatles would never exist. This is how strongly they were influenced by the great artist. Apart from this, the group members were also influenced by many African American artists such as Chuck Berry, Carl Perkins, and Little Richard (Elvis Presley influences The Beatles, n.d.).
