 Jazz concert review On Saturday, I attended a college-level concert called “Vocal Jazz Spring Concert”. It had Vocal Jazz I&II and Bear River High School Jazz Unlimited. There were about 200 audiences who had attended the concert. The director introduced the concert and said that it was to be a more swing event. Here is the playlist of the performed songs that day. Vocal Jazz II had the following songs; Unknown, I missed it, you’re making me crazy, at the end of day, Soloist: Jessica Dacpano, spring can really hang you up to the most and a Love dance. The Bear River High School Jazz Unlimited performed, Rumor has it, where I belong,when October goes and Smack dad in middle. The Vocal Jazz I did; basically blues, so danco samba, Baby driver and Astrud. This concert explored how the musician rearranged the existing peace of to transform them into an original. For one to fully appreciate this concert, she needed a well tuned jazz so as to pinpoint the difference and similarities of piece. The music director provided instructionson how to listen the piece. Through the entire event, all the performing artists gave an outstanding performance. The soloist of the Soloist: Jessica Dacpano of the song at the end of day perfectly captured all the emotions of the music even for the audience. Where there was no solo, each musician played with tangible energy. The vocal jazz I took the stage to perform their songs. This group was tight meaning that they were not relaxed or tensed either. Various members of the group were singing solo and duet parts throughout the set and were very impressive. Body movements created a visual rhythm that supported and emphasized the musical skills of the singers, and helped draw the audience into a closer connection with the performers and the emotions evoked by the songs. There was proper phrasing of lyrics, or allowing a chord to be heard clearly at low vocal volume. In the next piece, “Rumor has it and when October goes,” Bear River High School Jazz flexed on their own arranging abilities. They used only a subset of the ensemble, created a unique variation of the famous tune. A highlight of the piece was the mini-duet between the bass and drums. They also made creative use of the trombones, saxophones, and trumpets with each instrument playing over the other but still somehow playing as one. It was very exciting to see a fellow student share such creativity. When the song “you are making me crazy” was performed by focal jazz II, the audience hooked because they entered the stage in a frenzy style. Their song started with a freized paced which was supported by percussion base and the piano. Then, the trumpets and trombones chirped, mimicking the sounds of animals. Throughout the entire piece, the listener almost feels as if they are in an actual caravan, seeing the landscape around them and feeling the rhythm of the travel. Continuing with the theme of transformations, “Caravan” was followed with its rearrangement “unknown, I missed it.” Although it kept the percussion of “Caravan,” the rhythm was peppier than its predecessor. The vocal jazz I and II would tease the audience in concert by quickly changing in the tempo and rhythm, and repeatedly speeding up and then slowing to a standstill only to pick up the pace again. Overall, the concert was great, but that should be expected from the Festival Jazz Ensemble. On November 16, 2011, the voice area recital at Colorado State University, featured art songs as well as opera songs presented by scholars from the studios of Dr. Tiffany Blake, the professor in charge Gregory Brookes, Dr. Todd Queen in addition to Susan Hochmiller. The concert took place at the Organ Recital Hall and was open to the public. This was a clear show case of a classical music concert, including differing music equipments. The classical performers uniformly performed several pieces all through the concert. “Lonely House”, “Epitaph of a Young Girl” and “Consolati e Spera” were four stylistically differing presentations that permitted the viewers to experience the several sounds of classical music. Classical music is the art music derived from the traditions of secular sounds. The major themes of the tradition become unified in classical music performances. Classical music, similar to all music, narrates the stories. “Lonely house” is sung in tenor, where a poor young scholar, in the center of the scene in Street Scene, followed by an enthusiastic act of young school going girls arriving home following their graduation. Following the departure of the young girls, the singer is left alone and sings his meandering sadness. At this instance, the viewers have been made perceptive of the singer’s frustration due to the love of a fellow tenant, who is just friendly to the singer. The song classically narrates the hollow house and its impact on the singer. Lonely house is perfectly explained as blues as well as opera. The singer sings in a rambling melody, which is a form of musical comedy, apart from the fact that it is harder than meets the ear. It seems as though the structure is just an AABA pattern; however, Weill has widened and altered the advent form. When the A reciprocates, it includes a differing accompaniment, though an importantly changed melody, where the contour and peaks are different from the initial ones. Additionally, the music results in differing surprises for the audience. A comfortable determination is depicted at the phrase “night”, and is instantly followed by an appealing and unpredicted rise in the high. A piano as well as the tenor voice alternated the melody in the song. As the message within the song rises up, the texture alters within the song as the piano replaces the melody. The rhythm appears to get fast towards the end of the song with an increase in the sounds of the piano as well as the tenor voice. However, before concluding the song, the singer lowers the voice and so does the pianist. The singer uses long vowels in the song, which reduces the eminence of the sound. The tenor voice is however, loud enough and clear for the listeners to follow. The piece was not regulated but, the singer let the piece drive him, which added to the emotional appeal in the song. Listening to his piece is interesting as it opens with the classical music mood. “Epitaph of a Young Girl” is a classical song composed by Richard Hurley. Hurley is a perfect composer of classical music with a collection of art songs. The performance included a soprano voice by Nicole Bishop accompanied by piano sounds by Madeline Greeb. The song begins with a piano being played all through the first few minutes of the song. The singer remains silent all through the song. The pianist plays smoothly with differing tones but consistently. Then the singer joins in with a loud start and begins to sing. This attracts the listener to listening to what is being said. The piano was played with the same smooth flow even after the singer joins in. The play of the piano and the voice of the singer remain the same for the first few minutes again. Rhythm is maintained by the pianist, while the texture of the piece did not alter all through. The energy all through the song was soft and then heightened to a controlled pace prior to a lower level. The singer maintains the beat of the pianist all through the performance. The “Epitaph of a Young Girl” makes one wonder who the young girl is and why any individual would settle on writing such a song for someone who is already gone. The song was properly performed, though it differed in context and meaning like other songs that were presented at the concert. The piano is also played well and rhythmically. It is difficult for someone to comprehend what the intended meaning of the song is unless they have previous knowhow as to what is being communicated. The song is sad and not captivating as one would want to listen to. Hence, it would not be recommendable for someone interested in captivating music. Classical music impacts anyone who listens to it, such that emotions are depicted through listening to the music. However, this piece did not immediately impact the emotions of the listener. To some extent, I thought it resulted to more confusion. “Consolati e Spera” is composed by Domenico Scarlatti and was played in soprano while the musical instrument involved is a piano. The piece was purely played through the piano. The piece was introduced through a dissonant rhythm that persisted all through the performance. The piano is played in high tones that work well with the audience as they appeals to the audience. The high tones result in anxiety, as the listener becomes interested in what will happen next. The song progressively alters to a more pleasing harmony, which persists all through the rest of the song. The feeling of the piece was polyphonic amid the piano, with a bright as well as happy melody. The singer manages to use voice as a powerful means of communication that properly blends with the piano. The voice being soprano was heightened by the rhythmic playing of the piano creating a harmonic flow all through the piece. The melody in the piece was appealing and joyful in various parts of the presentation. Other parts were relaxing as well as soothing all through the song. The piano was used to emphasis on the important parts of the piece by increasing the tone being depicted by the piano tunes. The song appeared to be systematic at various instances all through the song, with high and low tones at several instances. “Consolati e Spera” was a perfectly presented piece. It was enjoyable as well as appealing for the listener through the use of the differing rhythmic patterns that have been used in the song. The piece fills the listener with passion and can be used to lift the spirit of the viewers. It can be recommended for any individuals as it feels the listener with imagination as well as interest, due to the difference in the tones. The listener anticipates of what will happen next. The voice area recital at Colorado State University was an interesting as well as engaging presentation. It was filled with great arrays of music as well as intellectually captivating music performed by the students. The music was classical music since it involved the performance of music that has been previously performed. Classical music is music that has meaning and is properly played through the use of differing music instruments. In this the instrument that was majorly used was the piano.
