Hip-Hop Hip-Hop During the 1970s, there was construction of the Cross- Bronx expressway in southern Bronx which led to the displacement of the residents composed of the blacks and Hispanics. Other economically challenged black people and Hispanics were relocated to South Bronx. The situation in South Bronx was not pleasing. It was deprived of economic energy, political attention and resource allocation (Price 14). The youth suffered and they found a way to express themselves through arts and music.

Hip hop emerged from the creativity of the displaced young people especially the black youths. The situation is South Bronx provided a platform for the youth to engage in a form of creativity to express their opinion and specially frustrations. That way, Hip-Hop became an identity and a cultural phenomenon that spread all over New York and other parts. As the people began to interact and share their ideas, Hip hop developed to a level of fast uptake. During the conception of the Hip-Hop culture, there was a diverse population living in South Bronx.

They were composed of Latinos, African and White people among others. They added a rich cultural mix that evolved gradually to become a cultural movement (Price 17). Hip-Hop started to go mainstream because of the appreciation it was receiving in South Bronx and out of south Bronx. People from the mix that had formed the Hip-Hop culture became intrigued by the form of art, dancing and music that spread out to be known as Hip-Hop. Since the people of South Bronx wanted a wider audience for their plight, opportunities arose for commercialization.

In the end, globalization played a huge part in making Hip Hop the global phenomenon it is today.Works CitedPrice, Emmett G. Hip Hop Culture. Santa Barbara: ABC-CLIO, 2006. Print.
