Similarities and Differences in the Songs Written by the Female Songwriters - Research Paper Example

The songs written by the female songwriters, “Who Will Save Your Soul” by Jewel and “Strong Enough” by Sheryl Crow sends the message that the subject of salvation presented for reflection by being more aware of one’s personal actions and behavior. On the other hand, Sheryl Crow’s “Strong Enough” is directed to men being asked the question of being strong enough for women in times of struggles, challenges, and difficulties. There are similarities in mentioning religion and reference to God but at the same time, there is a message that focuses on the eminent strength of women when times indicate the need to rely on their own.

The songs written by male songwriters, “Your Body is a Wonderland” by John Mayer and “I Won’t Give Up” by Jason Mraz focus on the message being given or relayed to women. Mayer’s song emphasized the beauty in physique possess by women; while the message of Mraz’s song communicates persevering in the relationship with women through difficulties and challenges. There are similarities in terms of signifying the attraction felt and expressed by men towards women in both songs.

 In comparing the abovementioned songs written by female and male songwriters, it is evident that one of the similarities is the points of views taken by the songwriters. Female songwriters’ messages were directed towards men in terms of emphasizing the strength exhibited by women and not relying solely on them: “I’d be the last to help you understand, are you strong enough to be my man?” (Crow par. 1); and “Those flings, those strings you’ve got to cut; so get out on the streets, girls, and bust your butts” (Jewel par. 4). Therefore, the themes of their songs are usually directed towards the opposite sex.
