As immigration is becoming commonplace, many people from different races are coming into the United States. The population is becoming more diverse with multi racial and cultural people and educational institutes must be sensitive to this fact and tutor the children accordingly (Lynch & Hanson 1992). Social services should take this into account as a serious matter that children from different races and culture will have to fit in with people who probably don’t like them in account of their different skin, features, and cultures.
Kiana states that her mother says bad things about “those people” and that she doesn’t want to play with Miranda because of that. Technically it’s not Kiana’s fault because she is just going along with the kind of behavior her mother has portrayed. Vanessa on the other hand is just mimicking her friend’s behavior with no reason of her own. This shows that children follow their parent’s example especially in this young impressionable age, and after their parents, they follow their friends, without realizing the implications of their act.
Such slurs about ethnicity and personal comments are extremely embarrassing behaviors and it is important that they be nipped in the bud. Children who are teased and taunted and victimized by such comments suffer through social isolation and rejection, mainly through the fact that children mimic each others behavior. If Kiana and Vanessa wont play with Miranda because she’s different. None of the other children will play with her based on the same assumptions. Such assumptions from students need to be taken care of right away because they cause disruption in the class as well as outside.
If Kiana and Vanessa are to do a class activity in which Miranda is also involved, and if they refuse to let her work with them, it would mean Miranda
