e USA’s and India’s culture and through that comparison, will come up with marketing strategies that GM should take adopt or implement in those two different countries based on Hofstedes dimension. According to Geert Hofstede, universal management method is unviable concept and does not exist because the word management has different origins and meanings in different countries (valuebasedmanagement.net). With the countries’ culture, traditions, political climate, social aspects, etc, etc impacting the management, the management process as well as the resultant marketing strategy could vary between countries including between USA and India.
Based on these variations, cultural dimensions model of Geert Hofstede describes five dimensions of differences between national cultures: power distance, individualism versus collectivism, masculinity versus femininity, uncertainty avoidance and long-term versus short-term orientation. USA is the third largest country in the world and is home to General motors, which is headquartered in Detroit, Michigan. Likewise, India is also one of the largest countries in the world taking the 7th position.
Because of the largeness of their territories, both the countries have many of states, thus exhibiting diverse cultures. USA consists of diverse cultures with people from different races, religions, ethnicities, etc. living in different parts of USA. Even though White race and religion of Christianity is the most predominant, people from various races and religions do co-exist with them. Like wise, India is the home to various religions, language, castes etc. “…since India is a secular pluralist state that is home to every religion known to mankind” (Tharoor 2006).
In the case of India, Indo Aryans and Hinduism are the major race and religion, however there is optimum diversity. Although, both the countries have huge and different land territories as well as cultures, GM sees particular country as a single market. Thus,
