Modern Muslim religion is followed by a vast population in the world. The teachings of Prophet Muhammad are articulated in the holy book, ‘The Quran’. Prophet Hz. Muhammad is recognized as the leader and founder of the religion. Muslims are spread throughout the world and are part of the society in almost every country. Some new Muslim countries have now emerged out of the former Soviet Union.
The former communist state was basically an atheist society which suppressed all religions for more than half a century. However the religious beliefs were nurtured all along within the various indigenous communities living in the Soviet Union under the yoke of communism. Some countries such as Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan have again emerged as Muslim countries after independence from the former Soviet Union. Muslims have made great contributions in the fields of art, architecture and science and have established themselves well in many European countries including Britain where they have a significant presence.
Muslims control a lot of business activities and their unique social structure has integrated itself well within the British society. Britain is conscious of the significance of Islam and allows it to thrive within its precincts along with many other religions. The fraction of the British population which owes allegiance to the Muslim religion is however slight (2.8%; 1.6 million) of the population. Like all minority religions Islam is still struggling to integrate into England. Some argue that this is due to a group of anti-Islamic people who are depriving them from the basic human rights.
