I was involved in making presentations to potential clients and understanding their fashion needs so as to give them products that meet their needs and also help in meeting the company objectives and meeting the needs of the society in general I am a Philosophy graduate from the University of Leeds and I have also taken courses on branding at the London College of fashion. I have successfully completed the European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL). Consequently I have a good grasp of Information Technology.
I have worked for a London based marketing firm for a period of four weeks. Previously I worked for Old bar in Leeds and from September 2009, I will be working as a student brand manager for Leeds University union. I will mostly be involved in market research and transforming a magazine from a fortnightly pamphlet to a monthly magazine. After my first degree in Philosophy, I got exposed to a whole new world of reasoning composed of love, wisdom and logical reasoning. Among other things, philosophy deals with issues that are of great importance to humanity and how human beings use their intelligence to try and find logical answers to these complex issues that surround them.
Other branches of philosophy such as Metaphysics go ahead to probe the importance of the world we live in, how human beings make rational and ethical decisions. It also explores the importance aesthetics and the importance human beings attach to beauty. On the other hand, marketing deals with the process of identifying consumer needs and satisfying them in a profitable manner. Essentially this involves an understanding of the consumer mind and how human needs can be identified and satisfied. After my brief encounter with marketing, I realised how marketing heavily borrows from philosophy and the synergy that comes with a good understanding of the two subjects.
