The role of corporate social responsibility has, therefore, become increasingly vital to the strategic management of the organization, both national and international, and projection of its aims and objectives in the eyes of the public and stakeholders, especially in the developing economies like Qatar. Qatar is a small oil rich, peninsular Arab country in the Middle East. The oil and gas extraction has been the main source of income for the country that has made it one of the richest nations of the world.
In the recent times, the role of corporate bodies and businesses in the sustainable development of the local economy has become key factor in the fast transforming dynamics of national and international business. Qatar has attracted lots of foreign investments and multinationals with their numerous products and has ushered in technology advancement and industrialization. While the development issues like education and health paradigms are important ingredients of government priority in Qatar, the environmental factors have increasingly become major concern across the globe.
The deforestation and lack of concern for the natural resources has seriously threatened the ecological balance. Thus accountability, responsibility and reliability need to become important pre-requisites for businesses to create a credible environment for their trade and investment in Qatar. Therefore, CSR initiatives of the corporate businesses in Qatar, in the area of sustainable development and environment conservation would be studied. Corporate social responsibility is a relatively new term that promotes proactive participation of the businesses in the socio-economic development of the society at large.
