Thus, many businesses have to rebrand their core values to ensure inclusion of CSR. The businesses are assured growth that is sustainable by this function. Though employees are part of CSR, the top management is the key player and its driving force as well. To enhance the whole organisation’s commitment to the workforce, the management has to take part in this process. The involvement of workers portrays the Human Resources Management’s contribution to CSR. Specifically, the department of Human Resource serves in encouraging practices that are sustainable.
(Sharma, et al, 2009) In both the US and the UK, there are Corporate Governance Committees which are an initiated mechanism to make sure that the best practices are the order of the day in all listed companies. They make sure that all stipulated requirements are fulfilled in the function of Corporate Governance. Where it is a requirement, they also prepare statements of compliance with corporate governance so that they are included in the yearly reports. Since the year 2001, these committees are approaching Corporate Governance with a proactive stance so that the ensure monitoring and implementation of the standards required.
They work together with internal audit, disclosure committees as well as other members of the team of management. (Mullerat and Brennan, 2005 p 48) The 21st century has transformed the role of directors of organisations. Their disclosure differs from that of the 20th century in that their tasks have gone beyond the increasing of shareholders’ value and the running of business to cover more stakeholders. They now concern themselves with social issues, pollution, the engagement of stakeholders and the effect on their business’ operations worldwide.
