I believe this is because the desire to teach itself comes from a person’s individualistic philosophy of education. My own desire to teach does not come from the money associated with it, although I will certainly admit that it is certainly one of the many reasons. It also does not come from the respect given to educators in society since that is something which has been accorded to teachers for centuries. Rather, it comes from my inner desire to help young minds in growing and learning to be members of a society where they will form the future.
Fundamentally, I want to teach since it will allow me in some small way to touch those who will lead us to a better and brighter tomorrow. That is the reason why my view of education leans towards believing that education should be used to develop students in such a way that improvements are made in their complete personality than mere academic advances in their minds. A teacher should act as a councilor to the students and be able to discuss the issues faced by the students on a level which is acceptable to them.
While learning facts and figures as well as their application is important, a student should also be given tools which enhance their social and personal skills. I strongly believe that a well rounded education includes all disciplines and allows the student to make further inroads into the field of their choice. The arts and sciences should be given equal weight while vocational studies should be geared towards the interests of the students. Despite this, I do not agree with the idea of a completely liberalized school since the primary function of a school is and will probably always be to educate and train the youth of the society in all matters starting from reading, writing and mathematics.
