This analysis led me to discover the lack of mathematical skills in me and the importance of the role in skills in mathematics. On going through available literature on this subject, I found that my analysis on the requirement of mathematical skills to be adequate in the nursing profession was justified. My first move in seeking justification for the need in improving my mathematical skills was to look at then prevailing attitude on the requirements in nursing professionals. In keeping with virtue ethics there is a premium on intuitive and analytical abilities among nurses.
(Smith, K.V. and Godfrey, N.S. 2002. Being a good nurse and doing the right thing: a qualitative study). A study of into mathematical calculation ability conducted among 56 nursing students and 56 students in other fields, showed that the nursing students demonstrated significantly lower mathematical skills than the students in other study fields.
(Pozhel, B.J. (1996). Mathematical calculation ability and mathematical anxiety of baccalaureate nursing students). Medication is a part of almost any medical intervention in the treatment of patients. While diagnosis of the ailment and therapeutic regime remain in the realm of the physician, my role as a nursing professional would have to do a lot in the administration of medications.(Quan, K.
