Formula One Introduction Many of us are probable aware of the different kinds of motor sports racing conducted at different times of the year in different countries across the world. A good example is that in United States, most individuals are aware of the NASCAR racing which is a popular motor sport racing in that region of the world. Practically, everyone who can access a media device has either had or seen the race as it is always aired in different television stations in the country. However, this paper focuses in discussing and examining the different factors related to formula one racing. The type of racing is popular in the UK and neighboring countries within the region. What makes the racing interesting to majority of the citizens there are the types of cars presented to compete in different races conducted at different times of the calendar (Mastromarco & Runkel, (n.d.). In fact, speed with which these cars are driven has captured citizens attention because the racing involves highly trained drivers and teams who unlike other ordinary individuals, are able to control the racing cars at speeds which is difficult for common drivers to achieve. Moreover, almost three quarter of formula one racing events are always conducted in the Europe further giving it popularity in the region of the world than in any other regions where motor racing is conducted. Historical Implications of Formula One Racing The history of formula one racing is traced back to a century back in 1946 when racing of motor cars was first introduced as an idea. Form then to date, formula one has greatly evolved motor racing as sport receiving similar audience as those in football or other related sports. The idea raced in 1946 was matured in1950 when the first motor racing was conducted. After this, several motor racing events were conducted in different parts of the globe and with each New Year, changes were adopted on the nature of motor racing. The effects are seen today as motor racing has become a highly commercialized sport and through it individuals are earning bucks hence turning it as their main source of livelihood. However, in the 50s in spite of motor racing being held at different parts of the globe, very little if no concentration was given towards the sports as it was not commercialized and individuals taking part in the racing activities had little to benefit from the races which were conducted. In 1993, motor sport racing was ending toward decline because majority of the individuals who were participating in the race s had diverted their attention to other sports or activities which could earn them a source of livelihood. This was due the fact that the different racing activities which were being conducted were resulting to loses than profits for those who were participating (Indy, Formula One developing far apart, 1991). As years progressed and technology developed, motor racing as a sport came back again in the limelight because different cars with different concepts and designs emerged in the market creating a need for the different manufacturers to market them. They used formula one racing as an avenue to lure prospective customers into purchasing their cars as now, their cars had been improved through such features like improved engine efficiency and control gears which gave them unusual speeds which lacked in other ordinary motor cars. This led to the formation of constructors’ championship in 1958 where formula one teams were used by different car manufactures to showcase their new technologies and improvements and determine which cars were the best in the market in terms of speed and technology. Later on the toward the end of the decade, aerodynamics was invented and with came the ability to achieve great cornering speeds and down force which empowered the engine of different motor cars used for racing with power. Moreover, with great speeds achieved for different vehicles used by different formula one teams, problem arose for the different car manufacturing as their formula one racing teams were constantly involved in accidents. This led to the need of the development of electronic driver’s aids and the introduction of semi –automatic gear boxes to give the different formula one drivers control over their racing cars (Bisagni, Pietro, Fraschini & Terletti, (n.d.). To curb on the rate of accidents which were happening during formula one racing events, policies were put across to determine the type of cars which were suitable for racing activities. Likewise, cars which were allowed to enter formula one racing events were required to achieve their speeds through automatic progression. The results of these was that the rate of accidents experienced during different formula one racing were tremendously reduced. From then, FIA was tasked with the responsibility of ensuring that the rules for formula one racing were adhered to and that the different formula one teams were sincere to adhering to the rules put across to govern the formula one motor car racing. Economical Issues Unlike the past where motor sport was nota commercialized activity, today formula one racing has ensured and guaranteed employment for the different teams and management participating in the formula one event. The commercialization of formula one racing has also increased the total number of individuals who discovers different careers at the motor sport sector hence ensuring that the rate of unemployment is kept at minimal. Moreover, formula one racing has been able to collect revenues from different sources like visitors who travel from different parts of the world to witness the various formula one racing events conducted at different times of the year. The revenues collected are used in the maintenance and upkeep of different formula one team hence encouraging the large number of individuals who pick careers related to formula one racing. Additionally, formula one has also assisted in the growth of the economy in the region because various businesses and institutions collects revenues in different forms from the visitors who prong the region to witness the different formula one racing events. A good example is that the hotel industry receives a lot of revenue from visitors at different dates of the calendar because after watching the racing events the visitors normally retire into hotels and different premises to have their rest and wait for events scheduled the next day. Formula one racing has also been negatively affected by certain events like withdrawal of major sponsors of their events. Different car manufacturing companies always participates in formula one racing by presenting different teams to present them on the races. However, withdrawal from the events by different car manufacturing companies like the Mercedes negatively impacts on formula one racing as it reduces the amount of revenues collected in such events. The results of this is that the teams participating in the formula one racing are not adequately paid and formula one engine manufactures also cuts the budget they spend in building different engines for the motor cars used for racing. In general, all this affects spectators’ interest in viewing and attending different formula one racing negatively as their needs of seeing ell developed cars race are not met by formula one (Morganelli, 2006). Moreover, due to tough economic time, withdrawal of formula one racing sponsors form different racing events smells doom to the sports because of their inability to continue maintaining the different formula one teams and accurately plan on the racing events to draw large attentions from spectators. Social Issues The success of formula one racing basically relies on their ability to handle and integrate different social issues within the society. The first social issues affecting formula one racing is the accidents experienced in the events conducted by formula one to show the different technological advancements of cars through racing. Most individuals still do not believe in these types of events because of their conservative nature as they believe that they avail themselves to the danger caused as a result of racing. This negatively affects formula one racing because the collection of revues are not maximized compared to other sports as spectators are always not willing to attend the events in large numbers (Morganelli, 2006). The issue of performance as a social issues has also affected the formula one racing events. This is because too much pressure is always placed on the different participating formula one teams to win the events leading to disasters at the end. To a large extent, this has contributed to the number of injuries recorded at different formula one racing events as the drivers are pushed to far to become reckless and irresponsible in their driving during the races. Likewise, this has also promoted cheating among teams within formula one racing through the use dubious strategies to beat their competitors to emerge winner at the end of formula one event. Lastly, the issue of personality has centered formula one racing and in the process different teams have been affected as a result. A good example is that the principles of discipline are largely stressed to the different formula one teams to the extent that the teams can not enjoy their social life peacefully. A good example is that formula one driver are always expected to highly behave themselves and with the spiraling paparazzi, a negative image captured by the media is enough to end ones contract with the FIA which is the governing body of formula one racing. Cultural Perspectives Formula one racing has different cultural perspective across the world and more so in the Europe region. However, a good number of individuals have associated the sports to men and women are seen participating in the sports, then they looked down negatively by the society. The reasons behind this widely believed perspective is that formula one racing is a sports which requires more from those participating and since women are not always strong in taking pressure channeled towards them, the results on women inclusion into various formula one teams is failure. Moreover, it is believed that formula one racing as a sport is only for individuals who can achieve great body flexibility therefore disabled individuals are not suitable to participate in the sports. This perspective is not true because formula one racings focuses on different skills and when disabled individuals can achieve or possess these skills, then they are good and qualified to participate in formula one racing events. Lastly, most individuals share the perspective that formula one racing is a festival of speed and when they can not be guaranteed this, and then they have no essence of attending the different formula racings events. However, as much as this is true, formula one racing is always about the speed and the technology behind the speed. Likewise, there exists a general perspective among formula one racing spectators that the events are always divided to different calendar days. This is quite true because most events of formula one racing are not always conducted on the same calendar date rather they spread across the calendar to give humble time for teams to prepare adequately for each different event (Noble & Hughes, 2004). Science behind Technology Being Explored The science behind formula one racing places emphasis on time. Different technologies have therefore been developed by formula one engine manufacturers in to address the issue of timed during the different formula one racing events. Formula one racing teams representing Mercedes have incorporated technologies which will only be availed in the next generation of cars in their racing cars to give them advantage over other competing teams in the events hosted by formula one. The results of the next car generation technology have greatly improved the engine functioning and fuel consumption of Mercedes racing cars used at the events. The use of carbon fiber, chassis and traction technology has also increased efficiency in formula one racing cars because the cars can make corners at great speeds and restore the power of their engines while breaking (Huff, 1998). Conclusion In conclusion, formula one racing is a great sport for spectators to watch. Moreover, unlike other sports which has no educative significance, formula one racing events acquires one with the knowledge of the technology used in designing the different racing cars and other makes of cars represented by formula one racing cars. This is greatly resourceful in assisting one in making a decision regarding the type of car to purchase and what to capabilities one should expect from the cars. Moreover, formula one racing as a sport has also added a significance growth to the economy because of the job opportunities created and revenues collected by different parties during formula one event. However, there is the need to expand formula one racing to other regions of the world because other than the fans in Europe, the sports has enjoyed global support from different corners and the fans who are not in Europe are not satisfied as they do not have the opportunity of attending the different formula one racing events as they are forced to use media channels to get updates on the results of the different formula one racing events conducted majorly in Europe. Likewise, the technologies used behind formula one racing teams should be adopted into the current generation cars to give customers similar experiences as those enjoyed by teams participating in the different racing event. Formula one sponsors should also be committed in supporting different formula one teams because it is a sports just like any other and they should further lay emphasis on the positive impact of the sports like the creation of employment opportunities.
