Evolution of Modern Dance Part The evolution of modern dance has taken a sharp turn due to innovativeness in the dance discipline, as the choreographers are passionately dedicated to attaining the best standards ever since the dance is their life devotion. The art of dancing call for having patience with sensitivity to the needs of the dancers at every time. The overwhelming need of choreographers to be inquisitive thinkers, perception of the society, observant of life, and well-endowed with required training techniques.
The language for communicating to the choreographers is through dance. The movements are put into “bits” just the same way we communicate through language. The whole dance art is a creative process in which life experience plays a critical role. The feelings of the audience and the aesthetic responses are what choreographers tend to be so sensitive. The process of creativity within the context of dancing is a showcase of a sense of personal growth and discovery, that is, the discovery because of sub-conscious.
Every choreographer deploys the emotional elements of time, energy, and space in order to enhance the quality of the work/communication. America grew up with dance. The American dance continues to be a barometer of life among the Americans. However, it from the streets to the stage, dance in America was capturing everyday gestures, cultural retentions, social dances, spiritual principles, and socio-political issues. These sources incorporation with the spirit of risk-taking, persistence, exploration, and independence have been the benchmark through the formation of what we today known as the American modern dance.
The American modern dance has emerged into diverse movement vocabularies, social and cultural concerns, and individual choreographic impulses- the American modern dance is an irreplaceable national treasure and touchstone.Since the inception of the American modern dance, it has been a cultural mainstay at home and a crucial ambassador of American culture abroad. The development of the genre of dance has been through a chain of succession as different generations build on the work of, or rather rebel against, their mentors, creating a lineage marked with innovation and also radicalism.
The definition of modern dance cannot be neatly reached to, but as the history tells, it is not a style parse but a continually evolving pursuit to share and discover the expressive potential of human movement. For the choreographers who practice this contemporary dance genre use unique movements, innovate, techniques, shapes, and gestures to suit the dynamics in the intentions of modern dance. Modern at times incorporates the theatrical texts and gestures besides cross-disciplinary elements, that is, movement on the floor while dancers are suspended from the ceiling or dance from a standing position, characteristics of performance styles of an individual and the elements of improvisation.
The modern contemporary dance is far much beyond just the steps, exquisite shapes, and virtuosic tricks but require artistry to enable the work of such tools in life. Part 2 The modern dance at times is abstract and extremely human. It is considered to be human since the modern dance presents and show value of the artists’ present-day innovativeness, not only accepting but also preferring today’s artistry over works, traditions, and techniques that have past and tend not to be contemporary anymore.

Modern dance differs from endless points of orthodox genres, which may be perfectible and predetermined such as deeply traditional folk dances or classical ballet. This paper gives emphasis to great choreographers in the modern dance dynamics by looking into specific personalities as illustrated below:George Balanchine has been of high regards among the foremost contemporary choreographer within the world of ballet.
He showed passion including the dream of creating a ballet company in the United States of America having heeded to invitation of the young American arts patron Lincoln Kirstein (1907-96).The Balanchine’s over 400 dance work include Concerto Barocco (1941), Serenade (1934), Agon (1957), Sympony in Three Movements (1972), Vienna Waltzes (1977) and Ballo della Regina (1978) among others. Balanchine is a major 21st C artistic figure who has revolutionized the outlook of classical ballet. She established her own dance in 1926 in New York City. Her passion in ballet inspired her and was dancing even at the age of 60’s and choreographed till she died in 1991 having left irresistible dance world forever. She worked with Ted Shawn, where she improved her dancing profession and technique. Her wildly emotional performance on the choreographed work of Shawn of “Xochiti” garnered her very significant acclaim.Doris Humphrey was a pioneer in the American modern dance besides being a choreographer, an innovator in technique and theory of dance movement.
Her dance avid and talent inspired her to join Denishawn dance school and company in Los Angeles. Her creation of dance reflects her individuality and appropriateness to American contemporary dance.A very gifted dancer high recognized for his powerful leaps, Cunningham joined the Martha Graham Dance Company in 1939 where he spent a number of years performing lead roles in the productions of El Penitente and Appalanchian Spring. Cunningham debuted a number of his solo work he choreographed which includes Root of an Unfocused that featured music by Cage.
He high pursues innovation in the choreography field as he developed solo pieces as a dancer.At the helming of the Paul Taylor Dance Company is the renowned modern dance choreographer whose works include the “Aureole,” “Arden Court,” and “Esplande.” In his company of Paul Taylor Dance Company, which he started in 1954, he worked with great icons like George Balanchine and Martha Graham, thereby establishing an enormous repertory. He won awards and honors like the 1992 Emmy Awards.
His success never came on a silver platter but he experienced critics. His style generally relied upon blending on daily basis, natural gestures accompanied with traditional techniques. Paul has a vivid knack for irreverence and humor, as was seen in the playful pastoral, “Arden Court.”
