Sweden is one of the countries that have welcomed wind power, and this has resulted in the development of wind farms in various parts of the country. However, in recent years, there has been increasing concern about the effect of wind turbines on the environment. Andersson et al. (2007) state that it is important to use sampling methodologies to assess the impact of wind turbines on marine life. They declare that this is the best means of ensuring that these turbines are reliable enough to ensure that there is no danger to marine life and environment, because if this were the case, then the purpose of adopting wind power would be defeated.

Furthermore, Barthelmie et al. (2010) argue that while wind power might be extremely popular in Sweden, there are instances where turbines break down, and this creates a problem with reliability. These authors make a case study concerning the number of breakdowns that take place in Sweden on an annual basis and how these have come to have a significant impact on wind power perception in the country. They suggest that while wind power is a potent source of energy, it is not completely reliable based on constant breakdowns of wind turbines, which have a negative effect on power output, hence the need to continue using other sources of power such as nuclear.

There has been increasing concern in Sweden about the reliability of wind power especially when it is really needed. Davis et al. (2014), after making a study of a wind farm in Sweden as a sample, show that during the summer season when wind energy is most potent, it is not often as needed as during the winter season because many wind turbines tend to malfunction by reason of ice forming in their mechanisms.
