The paper will examine the behavior of some of the New York Police department members during their visit to Washington DC police week and the events surrounding them. In 1995, some police officers from the New York police department engaged in inappropriate behavior when they visited Washington D.C while attending ceremonies related to the police. Report says that the police officers from New York joined other police officers in Washington to attend a memorial service for law enforcers. In the hotels where the officers were hosted quickly turned into parties marked with rowdiness with the officers spending a substantial amount of money on alcohol at the three day convention.

The guests at the hotel complained about how they lacked sleep because of the late night parties, bagpipe recitals at midnight and vandalism. This is according to the Police Executive Research Forum (2013). Serious allegations were leveled against the officers at Hyatt Regency hotel where an eyewitness described how the police officers participated in activities that could only be matched with that of a frat house. The officers were sliding down the hotel banisters naked, harassing the present guest of another convention that was taking place in the hotel.

They were also accused of pouring beer down the escalators while forcing the hotel to be evacuated through setting off fire alarms. The officers were also accused of firing guns at the hotel which was against the rules as they were not required to be carrying their guns at the convention (Police Executive Research Forum 2013). Police officers are held to a higher ethical, moral and legal standard than the average citizen. The officers are always in the eyes of the public whether on duty or off-duty (Dreisbach, 2009).
