Analysis of news article on managing across cultures , It is usually common to experience diversity from different dimensions in business organizations. In that case, it is likely that the workforce of any organization will have people with various differences based on their language, gender, religion socioeconomic status, race marital status and many other dimensions of diversity in a workforce. Therefore according to Trompenaars and Hampden-Turne (2012), multiculturalism will always exist in any organization.
The workforce will be composed of people from diverse cultural backgrounds. In regards to this, the management should always take into consideration the diversity in its workforce before making any decisions in the workplace. This concept of diversity in a workforce is something experience in any organization worldwide. It is then common to find many published articles and other news articles addressing the issue of management across cultures in many organizations (Fitzgerald, 1997).I found a news article titled “Looking Another Culture in the Eye” and it had an interesting story about the Japanese culture in relation to business management and decision making.
The author of the article explains how different all over the world perceive situations in different ways especially when in a work place. According to Meyer (2014), while giving a talk to managers in Japan, the author of that Japanese do not make a direct contact which other more often and it is way of life there in Japan. This culture therefore, affected the author’s communication with the group of managers and so he was not able to find out if there was any person who wanted to comment on his talk.
In regards to this, it is clear that cultural diversity affects communication in several workplaces. This therefore influences the flow of information and sharing of business ideas that are important in making business decisions. There is also the case of workmates form different cultures in the article. Americans claimed that their French workmates were chaotic and always disorganized while Indian also claimed that the same persons were inadaptable (Meyer, 2014). This clearly shows the great diversity in the workforce of that particular organization.
People from different cultures have their own differences based on the way they communicate, make decisions, lead, persuade and do many other things. Therefore, it is upon the members of a work force to understand and embrace each other’s cultural differences to ensure peaceful coexistences in their various workplaces. The business managerial implication in this case then is the need for mangers to always take into consideration the different behavioral dimensions of people’s cultures. Different people of different ways of scheduling, leading and doing many other things in a business based on their cultures.
Therefore, managers should be rational when making business decisions concerning a multicultural business organization to facilitate effective cooperation and flow of information in business (Oya, 2006). This message based on the content of the news article on the different cultural perspectives is therefore useful in one’s business career. The article explains the need for managers to always consider the diversity among the members of the business workforce while making important business decisions and therefore have the flexibility to address these dimensions of culture.
This means that business strategies should always be analyzed based on cultural approaches to ensure that it considers all the employees in a company or an organization and also global business relations (Chevrier, 2003).
